ROCK PILOT went to the front at once from the inside position and taken under light wraps while making the pace, had enough left to withstand the challenges from SPEED ROUSER and NEXT PAGE, but was required to do his very best near the end to last. SPEED ROUSER was rated while following the pace and, after appearing to falter when headed by NEXT PAGE on the stretch turn, came again in the middle of the track in the final eighth and was gaining. NEXT PAGE made a very strong run after leaving the backstretch and loomed as a possible winner on the stretch turn but weakened in the final drive. KING BEE finished fairly well. JIMMY THE ONE passed tiring horses in the stretch. TUSSLE PATCH and GOOD GESTURE stopped badly. VOLITION seemed outclassed. Scratched— 14102 Jims Whim. 111; 13706 Almas Heart, 108. WAR STIM trailed early and although moving up did not become a serious factor until the stretch was reached, then came strongly to wear down VIE EN ROSE and win going away. VIE EN ROSE, close to CALICO CREEK in the first half-mile, took command to open up on the field nearing the stretch turn, then went wide and tired but had no trouble saving second place. BLUE LICKS made a good move entering the stretch but failed to carry through. OCEAN MONEY was always fairly well up. COFFEYVILLE was through after going six furlongs. ATTEMPT followed the early pace closely and, coming to the outside on the stretch turn, forged to the front of EQUIMORE in the last sixteenth and bested him in a drive. EQUIMORE, well rated, headed OUR COUNTRY when ready nearing the stretch tum and, although going gamely to the end, was unable to resist the winner. DOUBLE BOGEY, outrun early, came steadily through the last quarter. PASHA SAIED was too far out of it in the early running and, although closing well, failed to be a threat.
