Ohio, May 1 13. — Horsemen were a bit reluctant in en-I tering their racers this morning perhaps due to the off track condition but at the 1 rime of closing the entries, racing secretary Owen E. Pons came up with a well varied eight-race program headed by the Perma -Stone Columbus. Inc. Purse. Carded as the seventh race, the feature is an al-I lowance affair for four-year-olds at the , popular distance of six furlongs and offers | a purse of ,500. Eight are entered for the test and appear very evenly matched with a slight nod going to E. Piatt and H. J. Montoneys Bo-star who will share equal topweight of 114 pounds with D. E. Hughes Demetrios V. Listed with 111 pounds each are M. A. Lauses Baptismal Fire, J. Pichicheros Ride ! Red. to be ridden by Paul A. Ward, and I Beatrice Garners Roman King, with John j Tracey as the pilot. The field is completed I by C. L. Crays Macs Day. to be handled by apprentice J. L. Smith, who will carry 106 pounds and completing the field with the same light weight will be L. T. Schavels Grey Task and F. Leevers Bonnie Basket. Two-year-old maidens make up the third race, a five-furlong dash and three-year-old maidens are entered for the fourth and fifth events. The only distance race of the afternoon will be the nightcap with eight platers to go the route of one mile and 70 yards. Saturdays opening day program showed all indications of a banner meeting when 8.333 fans turned out and wagered 67,763 on the nine-race program. These figures showed a considerable increase over the first Saturday card of last falls meeting when 7,200 patrons were on hand with the handle for the day being 14,721. Weather conditions for the two days were much the same. The track for Saturdays sport was I left deep in mud by heavy rains Friday night but the weather was dry during the day with clouds remaining. Alan M. Holman. former football star, of Ohio State University, had his green and white silks carried to victory in the Inaugural Purse, an allowance event paying a ,000 purse and drawing a field of 12 starters, by his speedy Fabucon. The four-year-old held a two and one-half length advantage at the end of the six-furlongs test over E. W. Schmitts Pecan, an outsider who safely gained the place position by three lengths over Mrs. H. Gross and Mrs. D. W. Hess Pan American, a 70-to-l shot in the wagering. Veteran reinsman Jimmy Dobson experienced no difficulty in sending the Holman representative into command in the final turn and quickly drew clear to cover the distance in 1:14!3 over the muddy oval and reward those who had backed him to favoritism with a .20 win mutuel.
