The latter lacked early speed but saved ground in the stretch and was pressing. FLIRTISSIMO, off slowly, closed some ground. PHAR- IN FRONT raced evenly but did not seriously threaten for the leadership. IRETOILE was always outrun. DO DIANE had early speed. PRESIDENT RYAN got through an opening in the first eighth to reach contention and, clinging to the rail, found another opening on the inside of the early leaders in the stretch to hold DONNARCH under pressure. The latter moved up on the outside in the stretch and staged a good finish. SIR TAW weakened after catching MORSE FLASH at midstretch. WILDCAT SAM funshed fairly well. MORSE FLASH tired badly in the last eighth. RUDYS VALLEY and NICKIES BOY were badly outrun. ELJAY was leading when he broke down on the far turn and bolted to the outside fence. The latter was a strong contender from the start and, taking a short lead between calls a sixteenth out held on well. BUTCHS DREAM came steadily through the stretch. BULL STRENGTH set most of the pace but faltered near the finish. SHOERULLAH was unable to keep up. UPPER ECHELON had good early speed. The latter came to the outside in the stretch and was gaining fast at the finish. FLEET PEET was never too far away and finished steadily. SWIVET closed well.
