Lover Boy Striving For Golden State Breeders CoupIedWith Family Album While Facing Quintet at Hollywood Park HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., May 31. The Kerr Stable, whose Round Table won the Will Rogers Stakes on Memorial Day, will strike for their second major triumph of the week with Lover. Boy in the 7,400 Golden State Breeders Handicap at a mile and one-sixteenth on Saturday. The Golden State is for three-year-olds and older horses foaled irf California and while it attracted only seven entries the contestants appear well matched and should put on an interesting race. Ready to face Lover Boy, who was named along with his stablemate, Family Album, are Dino Lozzis Count Chic, Prest-ridge and Teas High Chalk, the R. H. Mc-Daniel Companys Forfhebest and the Slo-bee Farms Eddie Schmidt and Noredski. Lover" Boy, who won the Golden State last summer, is Saturdays top weight at 120 pounds largely off the splendid per-j formance he turned in here a few daysj ago. He ran a mile and one-sixteenth in 1:42 and was up in time to win by a. neck from Spinney, winner last winter of the 00,000 Santa Anita Maturity. In the same race he also defeated New Forest II., Alidon, Born Rich, Posadas and Pay Section. In his only stakes placing this year, Lover Boy was third in the Camino Real Handicap. Weighted only a pound under Lover Boy is Count Chic and he represents a powerful threat off a number of fine showings he has made in stakes competition this year. His 1957 record includes a victory in the Bay Meadows Handicap, second in each the Santa Catalina and Art Sparks Handicap and thirds in the William P. Kyne and Robert OBrien Memorials. Count Chic will, however, be making his first start of the current season though he has trained well enough for the race. Next on the list of weights is the 116 pounds which Eddie Schmidt must carry. In his only try here he was a commendable fifth in the Californian, while this spring he was fast-closing seconds in each the Kyne Memorial and the Childrens Hospital Handicap.
