On the Trot I By MORRIE KURLANSKT Seikos King Risks Speed Marks Top Pacers in Finale Spotlight Frisco Creed Returns to Action MAYWOOD PARK, Maywood, 111., May 31. The Maywood Park meeting, originally scheduled to run for 56 nights of which nine were pre-empted by atrocious weather conditions, comes to a close on Saturday night with an attractive 10-race progra m. The featured event will be a classified pace, which will bring out seven of the fastest sidewheel-ers on the grounds including the meetings record holder, Selkas King. Jerry Baiers homebred Kings Counsel stallion last week, after an unsuccessful foray to Yonkers Raceway, easily defeated six top pacers, among them C. M. Saunders highly regarded Sea Eagle, in the splendid time of 2:02. The previous best time was held by Sea Eagle, who could not do better than finish third to Selkas King and Plutocrat. Plutocrat again will be one of Selkas most formidable opponents on getaway night here, along with Jake Rodney, Lou Meggitts tough stallion who was actually the one responsible for Selkas Kings brilliant new half-mile track record. The Ohio stallion went the first quarter in better than 30 seconds and completed the first round in one minute flat and then was good enough to hold on way into the homestretch to finish fourth beaten but three lengths. Plutocrat, Dr. J. Howard Youngs stalwart pacing ace, looked like a winner in last weeks race having taken the lead from Jake Rodney in the turn but he could not resist Selkas Kings formidable closing burst of speed. Other than Hi Los Peppy, who was a disappointment in his seasonal debut last Saturday, Selkas King will meet three new foes this week end. Each rates a fine chance to upset the Elgin speedster. There is first of all Edward Moodys six-year-old gelding, Abbe Run, a model of consistency, winning four out of his six starts this spring and finishing in the money in the other two races. Abbe Run, who like all of Moodys horses is trained and driven by Glen Kidwell, comes off two victories over A class rivals and thus moves up a notch in class in Saturdays race. A strong finisher, Abbe Run surely will benefit by such a pacemaker as Jake Rodney. Terrific late speed is also the black Hoosier mare Sherrys Honors forte. The seven-year-old His Honor daughter started only one this year and was outpaced by the G. M. Saunders entry of Buckeye and Scotchlite. According to rail birds, however, Sherrys Honor has trained in exceptionally fine style for Saturdays event and she will give a much better account of herself this time. Hayes Fair Acres Stables excellent gelding Frisco Creed, a seasons champion both at three and four when he was credited with miles in 1:59 and 1:58, respectively, will make his first start of the season on , Saturday night. A high priced purchase at the end of his three-year-old campaign Frisco Creed for most of the 56 season was plagued by lameness. It might be useful to recall that he won his 56 bow at Maywood Park in 2:04 defeating Pluto-j crat, Freeman Hanover, Sherrys Honor, King Gaines and Jimmie Taylor in ihat order. After that the husky Jimmy Creed pacer was beset by a series of mishaps that hampered his campaign until September. At the Lexington Trots, Frisco Creed made a sensational showing for which it is hard to find a counterpart in recent years. Driven by Benny Schue, Frisco Creed won five straight heats against very fast pacers. But what made it so outstanding, was the fact that he reeled off three consecutive miles in better than two minutes and established a seasons record with va 1:59 clocking. Then, again, misfortune almost tragically hit the Hayes pacer. Invited to the 5,000 American Classic at Hollywood Park, where he was given an excellent chance against Dotties Pick and Times Square after disappointing performances caused by recurrent lameness was retired for the season. According to Schue, Frisco Creed has fully recovered from his ailments during the winter training period but whether he will be sharp enough to turn-back Selkas King and his other five rivals on Saturday night only the race itself can tell. Four winners the last time out, Robert Wilcoxs speedy filly Golden Blade, trained and driven by Eddie Morgan; the amazing nine-year-old stallion Attila, trained by his 72-year-old owner-breeder O. L. DeSart and driven by young Richard Blakeman; His Chief, bred, owned and trained by Lester Pletcher and driven by young Dwayne Pletcher, and the Detroit invader Victory Sun, trained and driven by owner Dewey Urban of Zanesville, Ohio, will be confronted in the co-featured A class pace by such good ones as Rapid Goose, C. M. Saunders classy three-year-old, Hi Los Bomb, trained and driven by co-owner Neil Boardman of Shafter, Calif., the locally-owned Buddy Barnes with Howard Beis-singer at the reins, and Edward Moodys Roxburgh Carmen with Glen Kidwell as the pilot.
