Gros-fields Roman Spy and Dave Singers Hangover, a meeting that was originally scheduled to take place on opening day in the Great Lakes Handicap but a test which the formers connections decided to pass up in deference to the "heavy" condition of the racing strip that afternoon. Weighted Only Pound Apart Racing secretary Horace- Wade has weighted the pair for the June Handicap at just one pound apart, with the Singer colorbearer being asked to lift top impost of 120 pounds. Arrayed against this, duo will be Wise and Simpsons entry of Validon at 116 and Snoozie, 108; Kilpatricks Mr. Fantastic, 110; M. J. Boylens Ilite, 109; A. Hangover Takes On Roman Spy In Sprint Handicap at Hazel Singer Colorbearer Under 720 Top Impost; Validon, Almas Heart Also Going Continued fiom Page One and Mrs. William Schwartz Sir Putnam, 105. , Favoritism between the topweighted pair figures to be as close a battle as the race itself. There is little to choose between the two . as evidenced by Wade!s weights. Hangover was topweighted for the Great Lakes Cap at 120 pounds and off his effort in that six and one-half furlong dash it was very evident that he did not fancy the footing. While the six-year-old son of Apache Corn Iikker did show speed through the early stages, he nevertheless swerved at the start and bumped two members of the field, showing that he was not a bit at home and finally refusing to extend himself after covering the initial half mile. Prior to the Great Lakes, Hangover won two straight, the more recent being -at Sportsmans Park, where he connected in a six-furlong allowance test in the mud. Scored at Gulfstream Before shipping to Chicago the Vince Creal-trained sprinter won a similar test at Gulfstream Park in an impressive fashion, defeating such good ones as Mambo Dancer and Vici Admiral. A fast track tomorrow, which at this moment appears a certainty, should make all the difference in the world for Hangover. Roman Spy, after passing up the opening day feature, started on a fast track Wednesdal and registered a facile triumph in the six-furlong Highland Park Purse, while under 113 pounds. The Roman gelding skipped the three-quarters that afternoon in 1:13, leading from flagfall to finish. This was the first win in three outings this year for the Early Smith-trained star who last season was able to win six of 18 starts while amassing a bankroll of 4,000. Weighted as he is and with the services of jockey Howard Craig once again, Roman Spy definitely figures to be right up there.
