Akbar Khan Heads List Of Macomber Nominees Sixteen Named for 12-FurIong Turf Event at Suffolk, June 17 SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 31. Cockfield Stables Akbar Khan, the English-bred stallion who cracked the mile and one-sixteenth turf course record at Delaware Park yesterday in annexing the Brandywine Turf Handicap, heads the list of 16 nominations for the 5,00 added John R. Macomber Memorial Handicap which will be contested at about a mile and one-half over the turf on Monday, June 17. Akbar Khan also won the Dixie Handicap, another grass attraction in a previous outing this year. Also included among the nominations were Mrs. Eugenia Bankheads Jabneh, who finished second to Akbar Khan in the Dixie and fourth in the Brandywine, and Greentree Stables Maharajah, -winner of the inaugural, running of the,.. Macomber, in j ! 1955 and runner-up to Fisherman -in last years renewal. From the local contingent, Sam Tufanos Wise Margin is numbered among the nominees. The seven-year-old son of Market Wise One Ripple makes his first start of the year in a six furlongs allowance race this afternoon. He closed out his 1956 campaign with a record-breaking performance in the Pimlico Cup last December, raced the two miles and one-sixteenth over a sloppy track in 3:37 under a bur-ien of 126 pounds. He has shown keen ability over the grass course, finishing second to Deep Thought in last years Tomasello. Weights for the Macomber will be released Tuesday, June 4.
