The 1957 renewal of the Ak-Sar-Ben Futurity has been divided into pwo divisions. This will be the fifth year that the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben has seen fit to divide thp two-year-old homebred stakes. Both divi-isons of the Futurity will carry a purse of ,000 added, which is ,000 over the advertised value of- the race. The management has always had the best interests of the Nebraska breeder in mind and has done much to help improve the quality of the horses foaled in Nebraska. The improved quality of Nebraska-owned horses is readily seen by noting the entries in the second division of the Futurity which is to be run as the sixth race. Those who have been named to go post-ward in that 12 -horse field are Self Reliant, Nights Pick, Pickalone, Vans. -Pride, Curly Kem, Eternal Puff, Royal Leo, Rare Champagne, Bartholomew, Cinchie, Marsh Rabit and Lucky Again. Scored in Fonner Park Futurity Paul M. Kemlings Curly Kem, winner of the Fonner Park Futurity, boasts the most impressive record of the juveniles going postward in the second division of the Ak-Sar-Ben Futurity. The true test of his ability came in the Dinner Purse. The altered son of Bull Wagon and Chocolate Maid made a sti-ong bid along the inside in that effort and was only beaten a length by W. J. Lewis Jr.s Miche Claire, who has only been defeated once. Curly Kem has won two of his five starts. His victory In the Fonner Park Stakes was won in a very easy fashion by five lengths. The time for the race was better than two seconds under the track record. Royal Leo, a well bred son of Spartan Valor and Autumn Night, won at first asking over the Omaha oval. The roan gelding, who is owned by Milt Mbskowitz White Spot Farm, had little trouble in defeating a group of maidens at four furlongs. The speedy juvenile won handily by three and one-half lengths and covered the distance in :47%. Royal Leo and Curly Kem will be both asked to cany 118 pounds under the allowance conditions of the. race. Royal Leo will be ridden by Joe Rector while Curly Kem will go postward under Wayne Chambers. M. H. VanBergs Vans Pride, Allan Hig-gins and Myron Smiths Lucky Again; Kenneth Urbauers Blue Valley Stables Cinchie, and Pickalone, owned by F. Gl Orr and Charles Murnan, have all won during the current meeting at Ak-Sar Ben. The first division of the Ak-Sar-Ben Futurity, the fifth race, lacks some of the luster of the second division, but nonetheless it will be watched with a great deal of interest. Ed Luthers Quiviera, who won very impressively here, will head the field of 13 going postward in the fifth race. Those named are Mr. Burton, Chief Gray Bull, Mystery Kidd, Mister Dever, Lyjac, Royal Rapture, Royal Betty, Ramego, Pap, Roll Red Roll, Bills Wish and Golden Mary. ~ i i
