J., June 20. — An imposing list of 30 nominees to the 00,000 Monmouth Handicap, released today by racing secretary John Turner Jr., includes two divisional champions of 1956, the top money -winner of last year and a worlds record holder. The Monmouth, richest of 19 flat stakes offered here, is to be run on Saturday, July 13, at a mile and a quarter. D and H Stables Needles won the three-year-old title last season and gleaned the most money, 40,850, while C. V. Whitneys Career Boy gained the accolade as the nations best turf horse. The worlds record holder in the group is George D. Wideners Tellarian, who set a mark of 1:39% for a mile and 70 yards at Garden State. Other top names among the 30 eligibles are Calumet Farms Bardstown, C. T. Chenerys Third Brother, Mrs. Jan Burkes Dedicate, L. P. Dohertys Traffic Judge, Mrs. E. D. Jacobs Paper Tiger and Mrs. J. A. Leones Rockcastle. Winners of Several Important Stakes -The group represents victories in most of the important stakes events run so far this season. Bardstown has won the Trop-; ical, Appleton, Widener and Gulf stream. Third Brother scored in the Bowie and "the Camden, in which he beat Bardstown. Dedicate won the Campbell Memorial from Third Brother. Traffic Judge came back "to stakes winning form with a fine victory in the Metropolitan while Paper Tiger whipped a smart field in the Lincoln Special. Rockcastle, the New England hope, won three features in that area. Nashua won the Monmouth Handicap last season and attracted the largest crowd of the 50-day meeting, 38,893. With such a banner list of handicappers available for this seasons renewal of the stakes, even this high figure may be surpassed.
