LAT0NIA FAVORITES WIN Jane Rachel One of Few Disappointing Public Choices. Dixiana Stables Woof Enjoys Length Advantage Over Navarre in Forest Home Claiming Purse. LATONIA, Ky., June 11 Good racing resulted at Latonia this afternoon, favorites coming home in front with startling regularity and the large turnout of followers of the thoroughbred sport in attendance, though there was a threat of rain most of the day, experienced a successful afternoon of wagering. Claiming races were run in the majority of cases, sprints and events over the more popular longer routes offering a diversified brand of sport. Four of the first five contests staged were accounted for by the public choices, Jane Rachel being the only favorite to fail up to this point. The Forest Home Claiming contest, for two year-olds, over the five furlongs distance, was captured by Dixianas Woof, which won by the margin of a length over L. ODonnells Navarre in a driving finish. The Everglade Stables Kermay finished in third place, four lengths in the wake of Navarre. Three of the seven juveniles that matched strides in this event are eligible for the Cincinnati Trophy, stake event for two-year-olds which is to be decided Saturday, June 20, but Kermay, which landed third money, was the only member of the trio to come through with a creditable performance. Josh and Chenault are the other eligibles for the Trophy. Displaying the most speed from the start, Woof, brown daughter of Bull Dog, showed the way from the beginning to the end of the dash, thus adding another score to trainer Clyde Van Dusens rapidly-increasing list of triumphs for the current meeting. Navarre followed in closest pursuit of the pacemaker throughout, while Kermay raced in third place the entire trip. It was not until the final sixteenth was reached that it appeared as if Woof was in danger, and jockey Charley Stevenson, aboard the Dixiana colorbearer, went to work with might and main on the filly in order to retain the advantage. Woof was favored over her rivals. Maiden two-year-old colts and geldings had the opening race, a five furlongs dash, to themselves and J. W. Parrishs Dehor performed in a manner that indicated he , was the best of the ten participants. Tartarus was second, four lengths behind the winner, while Davishill accounted for the short end. The Kenton Farm Stables Roberta romped to an easy triumph in the second t event at six furlongs. She was the second straight choice to register. Miss Wise finished second and Gamaliel was next when the finish was reached. Following close behind the pace, Roberta charged after Noma F. and Miss Wise when heading into the home lane. Displaying a good brand of speed, the brown filly mowed them down and drew out to register by the comfortable margin of four lengths. The third consecutive choice connected for the from players when Alltoi got down in front by the margin of a length in the third affair. Jessie Dear was a fast finishing second and Glove lasted long enough to save third from Lady Genie. The six-year-old bay mare, under the guidance of E. Ramsey, saved ground while working her way up but had to come to the outside for the stretch run, where she forged to the front and had enough in reserve to ward off the threat of Jessie Dear, which came from a long way out of contention to grab second place. The successful streak of favorites was brought to a temporary halt in the fourth race when Jane Rachel failed to collect any portion of the purse, a six furlong sprint in which Mrs. T. Poolbs Wilda was returned a handy winner over Novette and Cherry Time. Novette and Cherry Time alternated at showing the way in the field of eight until the final furlong was reached, where Wilda worked her way up with a good burst of speed ahd assumed the forward position. Jane Rachel dwelt at the start and having acted badly was much used to reach a contending position where the chestnut filly tired from her early efforts. Grey Friar graduated from the maiden ranks in the sixth race on the card, an event designed for maidens and winners of one race. He returned 42.20 for straight bets and 36.60 for place wagers. The gray gelding defeated Sky o Blue by a half length in a driving finish, with Asyouwere finishing third. Silas, the odds-on favorite, failed to gain any portion of the purse. Grey Friar was well up in the early stages and responded well to hard urging in the j drive to overhaul Sky o Blue, which had shown the way to her rivals from the start.
