BELMONT PARK STATISTICS Winning Owners Share 11,415 in Stakes and Purses. Money-Winning: Horses Topped by Granville Through Belmont Stakes Victory Jacobs Leading Trainer. The twenty-four day Belmont Park meeting, which ran from May 11 to June 6, had a fitting climax in the breath-taking finish of the valuable Belmont Stakes, in which the judges declined to trust their eyesight and let the photograph from the camera device render the decision that gave the race to Granville, with Mr. Bones second by inches. It was a brilliant finish to a brilliant meeting, during which money-winning owners shared an average of 2,975.62 in stakes and prizes daily, the total of such monies for the meeting reaching 11,415. Granville, after losing two other coveted stake races in a like manner, was confirmed winner of the Belmont Stakes, and the decision assured William Woodward of money-winning honors for the meeting, with a total of 5,775. Ogden Phipps horses won 8,200 for him, while the J. H. Whitney string and G. D. Widener horses earned 7,405 and 6,425, respectively. Granville, because of his Belmont victory a race worth 9,800 to the winner easily headed the money-winning horses. White Cockade, which surprised in the Withers Stakes, was next, with 8,200. Pompoon, National Stallion Stakes winner, was third, with 4,500 and High Fleet, victorious in the Coaching Club American Oaks, followed with 3,475. Johnny Gilbert rode sixteen winners for riding honors, while Hirsch Jacobs saddled fourteen winning horses to take training honors from Jim Fitzsimmons, who saddled eleven winners.
