ANOTHERPURSEFORUPPERCUT Colford Colorbearer Second Winner of Day at Agawam for Jockey Arthur Cooper. AGAWAM; Mass.; June 11. Uppercuf, Mrs. M.. Colfords chestnut six-year-old gelding, again carried that ladys black and white-hooped silks to a popular victory in the Menden Purse, feature event, over the six-furlong distance. Some two, and a half lengths back came Prosecutor, from the Mrs. P. Plante string, showing a like distance before Proteus, one that races for Arthur Hull-coat, while Lou Haymakers Curling secured fourth money. The winner was ridden by jockey Arthur Cooper and marked the lads second win of the day, having also won the previous race with Long Count. Backed into odds-on favoritism as the field marched postward, Up-percut gave his supporters some concern when he left the gate tardily, whereas in his previous winning race he was up with the leaders at all times. Proteus was the first to show, opening up a gap of some two lengths before they had raced a furlong. Prosecutor was a like distance before Quegn Helen, then came Curling, followed by Uppercut. This order held good until reaching the far turn, when Proteus dropped back and Prosecutor took up the pacemakers task, but Cooper had finally got Uppercut in stride and the son of High Time raced up on the outside with such a burst of speed that before the final turn into the stretch was reached he was leading the pack. Once in front Cooper took his mount under mild restraint and coasted to the finish, looking back at the vain efforts of Prosecutor to reach him. Ideal overhead conditions again prevailed, with the attendance holding up to the high standard that has been in force since the commencement of the meeting, while the handle again more than pleased the officials by the steady advance that it has been showing daily.
