LUCKY DUCKY forced her way through on the inside rounding the turn, drew away into a long lead and had speed in reserve at the end. CHANTING was bothered and forced to take up in the early running, came to the outside and finished with good courage. HIS NIBS, on the outside of the leaders rounding the turn, finished well. EIGHT OCLOCK was in trouble ncaring the turn. SILVER PALM moved into contention with a rush in the early running, but quit at the end. THOMAS C. was on the inside all the way. DEBATE showed a good effort. HIGH MABEL could not menace the leaders. GRAND JESTER had a rough trip in the early stages. Scratched 27283 Malign, 105; 25749 Out of Step, 108. Start good and slow. Won driving; second and third the same. SHOT AND SHELL followed the early pace under steady restraint, moved into the lead nearing the far turn, but bore out rounding the stretch and carried POMPEIUS with him, then continued to bear out, but came again in the final strides. DISTRACTING slipped through on the inside entering the stretch, made a determined bid in the final eighth and held on gamely to the end. MORALIST was placed under severe pressure for the stretch run and closed gamely. ALADDINS DREAM finished well. POMPEIUS, in nearest pursuit of the pace, was carried wide rounding the stretch turn and then tired. SOPHISTICATED moved up with a rush on the inside and then hung. TOP GEM was placed under pressure after passing the turn, came to the outside of the leader in the final eighth and finished with good courage. GOLD QUEST was outrun after the break and, placed under pressure, made up ground steadiiy. SCOTTISH MARY raced forwardly from the start, but hung at the finish. MAEQUITA showed an even effort all the way. TONIANNA raced well. RAVENNA swerved to the inside at the break and piled NAIVE into the fence. Overweight Showemall, 4 pounds. FOURTH RACE 6 1-2 FURLONGS. QUEL JEU moved up nearing the stretch turn on the outside, lost much ground, then made a determined bid in the stretch, but faltered at the end. THORSON showed a flash of early speed, then quit. Won driving; second and third easily. EXHIBIT forced the pace from the start, shook off opposition in the stretch run and outlasted PALMA in the final drive. The latter improved her position steadily on the outside, bore over sharply ncaring the sixteenth post and bothered OLD STORY and ESPOSA, then finished well under urging. CHICSTRAW improved his position on the outside, responded to pressure and finished well. GILLIE came through on Iho inside in the stretch and made up ground slowly. OLD STORY was under pressure when bumped by PALMA at the sixteenth post. ESPOSA was raced close to the pace all the way. SUNPORT quit in the stretch run.
