TEST FOR ROMAN SOLDIER Assigned Burden of 133 Pounds for 0,000 Race Saturday. Meets Formidable Opponents in Discovery, Ladysman, Dark Hope, Whopper and Many Others. SALEM, N. H., June 11. Assigned another crushing burden of 133 pounds in Saturdays Rockingham Park Handicap, Elwood Sach-senmaiers great colt, Roman Soldier, has an opportunity in that engagement to prove himself leading candidate for handicap championship honors for 1936. Demonstrating that he can carry weight handily and come from behind to win de- spite the burden, the Cohort colt looms today as the popular favorite to annex the 0,000 added closing day stake. The race, however, looms as one of the most difficult hurdles in his path toward championship honors for 1936, with such brilliant campaigners as Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilts great Discovery; Hal Price Headleys Whopper; Cleaveland Putnams Ladysman; J. W. Y. Martins Dark Hope and many others aligned with him at the gate. The mile and one-eighth test shapes up as a serious .threat to Roman Soldiers undefeated record thus far this season. Discovery, away since Santa Anita, is in the peak of condition as the stable readies him for shipment here. Ladysman, now on the grounds, has been prepped carefully for this event. Other nominees in the big closing day feature have been campaigning steadily and will be fit and ready when starter Bob Frend gets thje handicap field away on Saturday. , j 1 2 3 4 , : : ; i 1 ; .
