MURPHY VISITS THISTLE DOWN Veteran Racing Official Pleased With Enthusiasm Shown by Racing Pans of Cleveland. DETROIT, Mich., June 29. Joseph A. Murphy, director of racing of the Thistle Down Racing Association, who spent Sunday in Cleveland, returned here this morning. He reported that the improvements at the track had been completed and that Thistle Down now had been brought up to all modern requirements and was one of the most attractive plants in the Middle West. He found a tremendously growing sentiment for thoroughbred racing in the Forest City and also received personal assurances from some of the leading spirits in the North Randall harness track that they would encourage and aid in every possible .way the building up of thoroughbred racing in the city. Sunday the track was a beehive of activity, several of the horsemen from Detroit having driven over to arrange for the bedding down of their stalls, while several also came from different parts of Ohio and from Latonia to make airangements for the meeting. J. O. Brown, the superintendent, who has had charge of the track for many years, has the track in fine condition and, while a good rain could be used, he is sprinkling each night and fast time will be recorded on the opening day, July 7. The entrants for the Inaugural Handicap already show that a high class field will go to the post, and many of the leading stables, such as Dixiana, Bomar and others, have promised to van from Chicago for the stakes as they are closed. Charles F. Henry, racing secretary, has written that he will arrive in Cleveland tomorrow and open up his office at the track. The harness meeting at North Randall is under way this week, but arrangements have been made to have all of the stables out of the track by 10 oclock next Sunday morning, so that when the two specials from Detroit arrive the unloading platform will be clear. George R. "Buddy" Wingfield wired that he would arrive at Cleveland Wednesday and would start schooling at once from the Bahr gate, which is already on the grounds. The first race each day will be at 2:15 oclock, ,
