ROCKINGHAM LACKS FEATURE Tuesdays Program Ordinary, With Mile Claiming Event Best. Almaha, Under Leischmans Good Ride, the Winner, With Prince Pompey Second and Dancing Cloud Third. SALEM, N. H., Oct. 13 E. G. Haskells Almaha, ridden by young Wally Leischman, who scored a triple yesterday, won the mile claiming event that was the best on a featureless card at Rockingham Park this afternoon, finishing a length and one-half in front of O. H. Rowes Prince Pompey. Phil Schwartz Dancing Cloud was third, and Busby wound up fourth in the field of eleven. The latter closed from last place at the head of the stretch. Had Kamar moved with him sooner he would certainly have finished in the money. The first two horses dominated the running from the outset. Prince Pompey set the early pace, with Almaha after him. The latter moved into the lead at the quarter-mile post, was well in front as they entered the stretch and, ridden out by Leischman, had little trouble effecting the score. Prince Pompey was a length in front of Dancing Cloud, one of the extreme outsiders in the field, as they passed the judges. The latter was out in all the pace and turned in a good effort. He should improved over this race. CHALLENGE TOO LATE. Busby broke third, was taken back as they raced to the clubhouse turn, and trailed the field until the stretch turn was reached, where he moved past horses as if they were tired. The bid came too late, however. The time was 1:394,S. A small crowd was on hand, following the banner gathering that saw the sport yesterday. It was a cool day, but the sun was out and the track was fast. Long shots dominated the first and second positions in the first race as Mrs. Matt Col-fords Glassy Blonde, at 35 to 1, defeated Eagan and Maddens Eyelashes, held at odds almost as long. J. D. Stokes Wigan finished third in the field of a dozen. The winner was ridden by Earl Porter, who was a bit slow getting her away and was far back of Eyelashes pace until reaching the turn, where she began to sweep up fast on the outside. She caught Rielthing in the stretch and was drawing away at the finish. Eyelashes turned in a much-improved performance, cutting out the pace and holding on well, although she could not stave off the winners late charge. Wigan was up all the way. Miss L. C. Mcllvains Transit Lady. The winner was drawing off at the end to score by a length. Transit Lady, which had set most of the pace, was two lengths clear of O. W. Ackermans Lady Pal at the end of the journey. Transit Lady and Prosecutor battled it out for the early lead, while Tommy May was rating the winner in fifth place. Prosecutor quit on the turn and Grandmas Boy went to the contention- as they straightened out He passed the pacemaker in the stretch and drew off in the final seventy yards. Liberty Lane Stable Blessed Event, ridden by Joe Rosen, took the lead at the head of the stretch and drew. off in the final yards to score in the fourth event, at one mile. Gormleys Hardware. .Oaktree Stables Capitol Hill was a fast-closing third, taking that award by a nose over Aunt Flor. The latter, rated strictly a spririter7 turned fh" a"suf-prisingly good race. She set the pace and, while she could not last it out, was driving gamely at the end. The downfall of favorites mounted to a total of five when Hot Cake came from behind the pace to be up to win the sixth race, at one mile, over Thatch. The winner broke slowly and took some time settling into his stride. Approaching the half mile post he was in sixth position and when Leischman called upon him he literally jumped over horses to be in front approaching the stretch. He was ridden out vigorously to win by half a length. Thatch, an outsider in the betting, finished second, two lengths in advance of Union. The favorite in the race, Sun Teatime, which closed at nearly 5 to 1, quit badly after gaining command midway around the final turn and finished ninth.
