RAPID BELLS, .a factor from the start, took a clear lead after three-eighths, but failed to withstand the, winner, although holding the others safe. GOLD STEP, away last but unable to hold his advantage, challenged mildly entering the back stretch, but could not reach the leaders. JUANEVA BAKER tired after showing speed for thrce-eijhths. AMERICAN RED bolted into the inside fence at the start and made up ground when straightened. The latter, a factor from the start, but forced to lose, ground, finished strongly in a good effort. COPPER LAD, never far back and on the inside, was in close quarters rounding the stretch turn and held on well in the final drive. GLADESS, well up for a half mile, tired badly in the final stages. LO lacked early speed and never threatened. SUN DORA lost ground throughout. MR. JAMES pulled un sore. The latter, a factor from the start, challenged gamely after five-eighths and then tired slightly near the end. RADIO HOUR lost ground early and finished well under pressure. LATER ON, outrun for a half mile, gradually improved his position thereafter and closed with good courage. BURNT TRAIL, unable to keep up early, finished well when subjected to strong riding.
