I EPSOM DOWNS TURF NOTES I s e Jockey Sidney Erwin sustained a broken nose a few days ago in an automobile col-lison, but the injury was not serious enough to keep the veteran reinsman away from the track, and he was on the job early exercising horses. Jack Williams disposed of the two juveniles by High Time that he had at Kansas City and put in his appearance at Epsom Downs Tuesday. He will remain in the Lone Star state throughout the autumn season, then goes to New Orleans, where he is likely to assemble a stable. Sheriffs of twenty-five nearby Texas counties attended the races and participated in the downtown street parade, which was part of the celebration of Sheriff T. Binford Day at Epsom Downs. Jockey Herbert Simmons, who was somewhat of a sensation on the Pacific Coast last year and finished well up among the leading American jockeys in 1935, was an arrival from Riverside Park, and will get into action at the Houston track this week. The horses that E. E. Major is training are the property of Mrs. Guy Auvigne, it wai announced by the trainer of the trio. The first of the lot made her appearance Tuesday when Mary Carmen went postward. Apprentice Sammy Roberts, who is under engagement to T. C. Worden, has been leased to E. E. Major for the duration of the Epsom Downs meeting and made his first appearance in the saddle here Tuesday afternoon. Trav Daniel, general manager of Arlington Downs, returned to Fort Worth after spending a day in Houston in the interest of the forthcoming meeting at the AVaggoncr brothers palatial track, which will be inaugurated October 22. Word was received that apprentice Johnny Adams, who topped the jockey list at Long Acres and during both of the sessions at Riverside Park, will arrive here the latter part of the week. Adams plans to remain throughout the Arlington Downs meeting and will ride free lance. Noble Tiller, Scrambola and Juror are a trio of thoroughbreds which M. R. Lewis brought in from Kansas City Tuesday morning. The racers are the property of W. A. McElroy. Molly Greenock and Count Cotton were disposed of by Norman "Butsey" Hernandez, who Is weeding out his stable prior, to an, extensive winter campaign at Arlington Downs and the Fair Grounds in New Orleans. John Thorwald, Dallas business man, added the pair to his Skaal Stable. Terms were private. The good sprinting plater Cornelia Powell headed the consignment of R. Brewer from Midland, Texas. The other representative was Weedidit. Otis Clelland, trainer for Airs. R. J. Murphys stable, reported that On the Go suffered a severed artery when kicked by Bourbon Rose while at the starting gate in the eighth race Monday and the filly will be inactive during the remainder of the Epsom Downs meeting. D. J. Drake, trainer for A. C. Francis, came in from Midland, Texas, with My Goat, Elligene and Misgal, the latter a yearling chestnut filly by Milton Casa Del Sod. F. D. McElroy announced that he has facilities for about five more horses to be turned out and cared for at his Fairvicw Farm, located about sixteen miles from Houston, at Fairbanks, Texas. McElroy also reported that he has several of his own mares in foal at the farm. Thistle Nira, a three-year-old by Old Slip, arrived in charge of C. D. Downey and was placed in quarters at the Epsom Downs course while W. D. Smith brought in the three-year-old filly Josephine M.
