RUMORS OF NEW TRACK AT PORTLAND, OREGON SAN BRUNO, Calif., Oct 13. Reports from the Northwest have it that a group of Portland, business men, headed by W. J. Jamie, well-known in business circles in Oregon, have taken an option on a piece of land not far removed from downtown Portland and are planning to construct a track. The new track will likely be known as Portland Downs and it is understood that several of the men who have promoted two successful meetings at Spokane have been invited to join the group of Portland men in financing the project. A meeting was staged at Gresham Park, near Portland, three years ago, soon after Oregon voted to permit pari-mutuel betting, but the track was a little too far from the city and the meeting was conducted at too great a financial loss to warrant continuing the sport at that course.
