LIVE ONE PROVES SUPERIOR Overcomes Interference to Take Humber Claiming Handicap. Black Falcon and Lady Marnock Successful In Quest for Minor Awards Small Attendance at Long Branch Course. TORONTO, Ont, Oct 13. M. J. Sansones Live One. top weight in the field of seven better-class claimers which contested the mile and seventy yards Humber Claiming Handicap, raced to a comparatively easy victory when he led the Erindale Stables Black Falcon by half a length at the conclusion of the journey. Mrs. J. Badames Lady Mar-nock was third, a half length before Easter Hatter. Live One had to be considerably the best to win In as much as he encountered interference at different stages of the running. He broke forwardly but jockey Dougherty went to the inside and was forced to ease up slightly going into the first turn. He dropped back to fifth position still remaining on the inside. In the run down the back stretch he found clear sailing and moved into a contending position but was again shut off as the field swung around the upper turn. Dougherty then elected to take the outside and Live One responded gamely and made up ground steadily. He gained command inside the eighth pole but bore over to the rail but did not seriously bother Black Falcon; which had gained the lead. He finished well and was going away at the finish. BLACK FALCON FALTERS. Black Falcon, forwardly placed from the outset, was rated along until leaving the turn into the stretchj where he charged on the leaders to take command. His lead, however, was short-lived for he gave way in the final seventy yards. Lady Marnock was a trailer in the early stages, but began to improve- her pbsition after leaving the back stretch and closing strongly through the home stretch, was up to save the minor award. Easter Hatter displayed his usual early speed to take the lead at the break, closely followed by Fez, but they ran each other into the ground in their pacemaking efforts and were no match when challenged at the finish. Dull skies and a drop in temperature made-for poor racing conditions, and the gathering was the smallest of the meeting. Spey Crest made it a double for Mrs. C. J. Patchett when he established a lead of two lengths at the finish of the second race, leading home Big One, with third going to Justa Jane. Jockey Frank Madeley, who rode In Step, winner of the first race for the same owner, was also astride Spey Crest. Toe Dance and Margie ou set the early pacej before Big. One, but Margie Lou was soon done and Big One drew on even terms with Toe Dance and Margie Lou set the early pace two raced heads apart, but Toe Dance was tiring and when she began to fall back Spey Crest swung to the outside of the leaders I and under miid urging went to the front, drawing out without being asked for. his best. Entering the stretch Justa Jane found room on the inside and finishing fast was up to take the show award from My Letitia. TELA SURPRISE WINKER. Tela, running in her best form, was a surprise winner of the mile and one-sixteenth fourth race, driving " home one and- ohe: quarter lengths before Arbranch, which was a similar distance ahead of Taximan in the field of twelve. It was the first score for the nine-year-old mare in three years. Sass took command as the field swung into the back stietch. This was short-lived, however, for Lipton moved through on the inside to take the van position at the half-mile mark, Sass and Lipton raced closely lapped in the lead and before Taximan into the stretch.
