FAST THREE-QUARTERS Sir Emerson Carries 120 Pounds and Finishes in 1:11. Valdina Farms Representative Wins Prospect Purse atHomewood Second Winner for R. Dotter. HOMEWOOD, 111., June 25. Carrying 120 pounds and running six furlongs over a fast track in 1:11, the four-year-old Sir Emerson, one of the Valdina Farms nominees for several stakes to be decided at Arlington Park, raced to an impressive victory in the Prospect Purse at Washington Park this afternoon. The son of Petee-Wrack, carrying Bobby Dotter to his second victory of the day, came from behind a hot pace, set first by Foyot and then by Silverette, to score by a length for his second win in three starts during the current meeting. Silverette garnered second honors, while Hastinola was third, two lengths farther away. Then followed in order, Miss Saxon, Foyot and finally Determined, which was practically left at the post, but which chased after the field nevertheless. Sir Emerson, well backed in a race in which all but Determined and Miss Saxon came in for good support, raced wide and not a great distance back for about a half mile as Foyot and Silverette battled for the lead, but when called upon in the final quarter, the Valdina Farms performer finished strongly to forge to the front inside the final furlong. Silverette, which had raced Foyot into submission on the stretch turn and then took command herself, hung on well to be second, while Hastinola ran a more or less even race in third place. Foyot was practically through after about four furlongs and finished six lengths behind Miss Saxon, which in turn was within a length and a half of Hastinola at the end. HEAVILY CLOUDED SKIES. Sir Emersons performance was one of the fasandst of the meeting. The program was run off under heavily clouded skies and during the running of the third event the area was visited by a shower which, however, was not heavy enough to change the condition of the track. Sultry this morning, the temperature dropped some before the program got under way and a cooling breeze was a welcome relief to the crowd, which sweltered in the intense heat here yesterday. The crowd was of good proportions, as was the speculation. Rough riding was an important if not a key factor in a number of the afternoons events, and among these was the Lincolnshire Purse, sixth and co-feature, in which Calumet Farms Gosum scored a popular j victory. Shatterproof, which ran second, was the victim here, although jockey Charley Corbetts claim of foul was not allowed. Gosum forced Shatterproof into somewhat close quarters when taking the lead on the stretch turn and then, in the final sixteenth, carried her wide, just enough, perhaps, to bring about her defeat. Paul Ryan was astride the winner. DOLLY VAL EASILY. The Woolford Farms Dolly Val was made the favorite in the first event, a five furlongs dash for maiden two-year-olds, and she did not disappoint. The daughter of Jean Valjean, ridden by Sammy Roberts, worked her way up between horses from a slow beginning, took the lead with a rush after entering the stretch and scored with five lengths to spare. Arachne, well up from the ! start, finished second in spite of bearing out badly in the run through the stretch, while Green Country was third. Delovley was off i last in the field of twelve, but closed fast to i be fourth at the wire. The race was marred I I by a bad start from which some of the contestants never recovered. The shower that fell during the running of the third race did not affect the racing i strip for the Le Mar Stock Farms More j News ran six furlongs in the fourth race in 1 1:11, to be returned the winner by a half length. He was ridden by Roberts, who thus completed a saddle double. The favorite, Wise Duke, was closest to More News at the wire, while Panic Relief was third, and Airlap next.
