1 AK-SAR-BEN TURF NOTES $ — . 4 When the bell rings for the opening race on May 27 at Ak-Sar-Ben Field, Bald Eagle will be ready. His owner, L. F. Fairchild of Ogallala, has had the "Nebraska champion" here for several weeks and pronounces the veteran campaigner fit and ready. The "father and son" stable from Ashland, Neb., that of Omer and Deward Hall, was among the early arrivals at Ak-Sar-Ben, with Gold Play, Silver Ben, Transwise and Chronology. Dr. R. C. Gilmore, well known veterinary from Ulysses, Neb., is on the ground with San Flo, Flaghorn, Wavy Sea and Norma Clark. The latter two were winners at last years Ak-Sar-Ben meeting, while Flaghorn ran three seconds. Grover Gilbert, the cheery Montana horseman, was an arrival this week with his wife, who is considered one of the best women jockeys in the country. They brought the horses Chrysies, Nellie Quience, Idle Bubbles, Phyllis C, Josephine D., Paisano and the Nebraska-bred Lady R. From Julesburg, Colo., came L. R. Gilchrist with the horses La Marquis, Poncho S., My Betty, Lous Prince, Dick Daring and the Nebraska-breds Four P. Violet, Sally Russell, Fred D. and Howdy Cask. Ben Fulwider, who trains for the local restaurateur A. C- Nelson, has been resting his steeds for the Ak-Sar-Ben opening on May 27. They are High Diver, No Doubt, Margaret X. and Picanjo. Pete Duffy, sheriff of ONeill, Neb., has the three-year-old Section Man here for the Nebraska Derby, and the two-year-old Prairie Lady preparing for the Nebraska Futurity,
