OFF TIME, racing in his best form and never a great distance back in the early stages, slipped through on the inside entering the stretch, drew on equal terms with RED MAGIC approaching the final sixtenth and, holding on tenaciously in the closing strides, won in a dead heat with RED MAGIC. The latter, hustled from the start, was taken in hand rounding the stretch turn, responded to pressure in the closing drive, displayed strong energy when challenged and just lasted to finish on even terms with OFF TIME. IDLE WORKER, in close quarters rounding the far turn, was steered to the outside for the drive, but could not gain on the leaders in the last eighth. BUCKS IMAGE lacked early speed. PANATELA had no mishaps. ANNS BABY was through after three-eighths. SKALKAHOE was outrun from the start and broke down entering the stretch. Corrected weight — Red Magic, 113; Bucks Image, 118. PAY-OFF IN ALL DEAD HEATS In the case of any and all dead heats, wagers made away from the track the chart prices should prevail if track odds were offered and accepted. Where house odds were accepted, the procedure should be as follows: If was bet on each horse and b to 1 laid on one horse, the pay-off should be .00 to the [tayer and .00 to the layer; if 2 to 1 was laid on the other, the pay-off should be .50 to the player and .50 to the layer. Where one of the horses in a dead heat is quoted at odds-on or less than even money, the transaction is a loser. For instance, if .00 is bet on a 4 to 5 shot, the pay-off in the dead heat would be 90 cents to the layer and 90 cents to the player. The amount of money bet, plus the odds laid, with the total divided equally between the player and layer, is the regular method of pay-off in dead heats where bookmaking odds prevail.
