Johnstown Earns 5,525 In Three Straight "Victories — Percentage of Winning Favorites Above NormaL The spring meeting of the Metropolitan Jockey Club at Jamaica, which annually opens the New York racing season each year, was highly successful in many ways. The association distributed 06,975 among the horsemen during the twenty-two days of racing, for a daily average of ,407.95, which was close to the high figure for any single meeting at this track. The patrons who journeyed to the Long Island course witnessed sixty-two favorites win out of the 144 races run, for a winning percentage of .43. They also saw Johnstown, winner of the sixty-fifth running- of the Kentucky Derby, win all three of his engagements at this track, which included scores in the Paumonpk Handicap, Wood Memorial Stakes and a new-track-record performance in the Woodhaven Purse. The son of Jamestown ran the mile and seventy yards of the Woodhaven Pux*se in 1:40%, a fifth of a second off the worlds record held jointly by Mike Hall and Chasar. The Belair Stud led the list of money-winning owners, with 3,435, of which Johnstown earned 5,525 in his three victories. Mrs. E. D. Jacobs finished second, and third place went to George D. Widener. •Thanksgiving, winner of the Excelsior Handicap, and Fighting Fox, which won the renewal of the Jamaica Handicap, finished second and third, respectively, to Johnstownt in the list of money-winning horses. Jockeys J. Longden and R. Nash finished in a dead heat for riding honors, each being astride twenty winners. Hirsch Jacobs saddled nineteen winners, which was five more than "Sunny Jim" Fitz-simmons was able to send out.
