PRIZES FOR LEADING RIDERS Leading "Jockey and Apprentice at Detroit Meeting Will Be Given Diamond-Studded Watches. DETROIT, Mich., May 19.— Jockeys and apprentices participating in the Detroit meeting opening on Saturday and running for forty-nine days will be well rewarded provided they do not meet with the displeasure of the stewards. It was announced today that two diamond-studded watches would be given to the leading jockey and apprentice at the end of the meeting. However, should any of the lads be suspended the points earned will be taken away and the offender again will start from scratch The Miller Jewelry Company will donate the watches. Last year Ronald Nash beat Sammy Williams by one point for a watch, but this, year the apprentices and jockeys standings will be kept separate. Four points will be awarded for each winning mount two for finishing second and one for third Stewards Jack S. Young, Clarence E. Lehr and Charles Henry insisted that the suspension clause be included in the rules before permitting the contests.
