DAY WINS OVER MONTANEZ NEW YORK, N. Y., May 24.— Davey Day of Chicago scored a technical knockout over Pedro Montanez of Puerto Rico in the eighth round of their scheduled ten-round bout at Madison Square Garden last night. The defeat [ by Day marked Montanez first setback in sixteen engagements. Referee Frank Ful-lam stopped the bout after 2 minutes and 37 seconds of the eighth round because of a deep cut over the losers left eye. After taking heavy punishment in the early rounds Day rallied gamely and his victory appeared to be a popular one.
