1 WHEELING DOWNS NOTES « $ The riding clan increased with the arrival of E. Pulliam with the Otis Fulks string and C. Payne, who accompanied the D. Hoffman string. Payne had three winners at Beulah Park. "Boots" Dickerson, who has been dispatching the fields at Fairmount Park, will arrive here Thursday to take complete charge of schooling. Several members of his crew were on the grounds Tuesday morning. Mrs. D. Hoffmans good mare Donna Ba-rona, a handicap winner at last falls session ! at Wheeling Downs, was vanned in from Beulah Park as the star of one of the largest strings to be given space in rapidly filling barns. The Hoffman stable is combined with the runners of Clyde Lee, also of Dayton. D. Hoffman trains six, which will race in his wifes colors, and four owned by Lee. In addition to Donna Barona, Hoffman will saddle Soldiers Call, Military Girl, Vin 0*Rose3, Sally Saxon, a two-year-old; Curve Bit, Sheriff Eugene and Secret Lover. The last two and another pair to arrive Tuesday night will make up the Lee string. The Guciardo Stables arrived early this week with six horses, including the fine router, Mere Lassie, which holds the track record at River Downs. She races for Robert Guciardo, who also has Hasty Colonel and King Rib. His son, Robert, Jr., added three more Monday morning, Obstinate Boy, Barcardi Sweep and By Path. The Beulah shipments of the last two days brought Wild Rosebud, Bessies Pride and Old Cherokee, owned by Geyer and Jordan and trained by G. M. Jordan; Otis Fulks Our Gale, Hildur Queen and Pin Hooker; Eugene Caseys Royal Widow, winner of three races at the Downs in 1938; H. D. Byrnes Lum Joy and Contribute; R. J. Moores Mohawk Cherokee, Joan Macaw and Rain or Shine.
