GROUND OAK, away fast, drew clear in the first quarter mile, increased his lead steadily and, kept uiyler urging all through the stretch, was never seriously threatened. APPREHEND, hard ridden early, failed to give improved speed until the last five-sixteenths and finished willingly during the closing test. SHANTIME was well placed all the way and held on willingly to the close.- JOANEY B. closed some ground through the stretch, altho».?h never ;n a position to endanger the leaders. COUNT COTTON, at home in the going and in closest chase of the pace in the run through the back stretch, dropped back after rounding the far turn, came to the outside when reaching the stretch, readily wore down the leaders, to draw out under a vigorous hand ride. GHOST TRAIN had speed from the start and held on with good energy to the close, although no match for the winner when challenged. BUILDING TRADES worked his way up gradually during the last three-eighths and finished with good energy. BRIGHT SOX moved up fast on the outside, seemed ready to go to the front approaching the stretch, tiring in the last three-sixteenths after bearing out badly at the stretch turn. MACKS ARROW raced to the front immediately, opened a good lead in the first five-sixteenths and was never seriously threatened, drawing out in the last eighth. PHILOSOPHER responded gamely to hard urging through the stretch and closed in a determined fashion. ARANMORE, on the outside all the way, dropped back nearing the stretch, then came again during the last sixteenth. GAMBIT was unable to reach the leaders, although making up some ground. CHANALIS was outrun. CAUSEWAY had early speed while in close pursuit of the pace and tired badly through the stretch run. BRAVE LIGHT was outrun. Scratched— 74229Blare, 113. STABLE was slow to settle into her best stride, but obtained clear sailing on the inside in the run through the back stretch, continued to save ground and, catching the leaders tiring, raced to the front with a rush entering the stretch to draw out in the last three-sixteenths. SUNABELL, as usual slow to begin, came gamely in the last quarter mile. EBONY BLUE had speed from the start, was much used in racing with XANTHEIN and barely lasted to hold AI-LING safe. The latter came willingly on the inside through the stretch run. MUGAL was unable to reach the leaders. XANTHEIN had speed for the first half mile, tiring through the stretch run. ZENANA was prominent all the way, although tiring slightly during the final drive. ODDESA FRANK, outpaced early, closed a good gap. FERDINAND was away fast, but was unable to keep up. BROOK, under stout restraint while following in nearest pursuit of the pace, moved up on the outside when reaching the stretch and, fighting it out stubbornly with ANNIKIN through the stretch, outlasted the latter at the end. ANNIKIN had speed from the start, fought it out in determined fashion through the stretch, then came again in the closing strides, just failing to be along in time. PEACHYPIE moved up gradually on the inside, drew on almost even terms with the leaders after saving ground on the stretch turn, but was hemmed in along the inner rail and was unable to close any appreciable amount of ground in the closing drive. HELENS LAD was unable to enter into serious contention. AMERCUP tired after the first three-quarters. Overweight — Annikin, 3£ pounds; Amercup, 2. SEVENTH RACE 1 1-2 MILES. GALLOPING opened up a long lead in the first half mile, was rated along under slight restraint and, although tiring through the last eighth, lasted to hold FOREIGN LEGION. The latter, permitted to settle into his best stride and outrun until the last three-eighths, moved up gradually on the inside and, -finishing in determined fashion, just missed being up in time. BRANDON PRINCE, reserved for the first mile, was placed under punishment during the last quarter mile, but tired slightly during the last eighth. LITTLE BANNER was unable to reach the leaders.
