J , [ , I , , Downs Conflict Unlikely To Affect Lincoln Stakes Expect Crete and Joliet to Lure Stellar Fields During First Week The Lincoln Fields spring meeting, which will again be held at the Washington Park course, is to comprise 30 days of sport beginning on Monday, May 16, and concluding on Friday, June 18. According to Peter J. ODonnell, general manager of the Lincoln Fields Racing Association, Inc., all of the traditional features presented in the past, which have proven so popular with the Chicago patrons, again will be offered this season and include the Crete Handicap, Joliet Stakes, Steger Handicap, Peabody Memorial, LaSalle Handicap, Miss America Stakes and the Lincoln Handicap. Nominations for each of the added events close 10 days previous to the running date, with the closing deadline for the Crete on Friday, May 6. The Crete, six-furlong sprint, which is designed for three year-olds and upward, will have its renewal this year on Monday, May 16, and the 0,000 fixture is expected to attract one of the more formidable fields in its history. Following the Crete, the Joliet, five-furlong dash fashioned specifically for two-year-old colts and geldings, is to have its renewal on Saturday, May 21, and as the Crete carries the endowment of 0,000 added, the 0,000 added Steger Handicap will be contested at six and one-half furlongs and is expected to bring together a capable band of three-year-olds and older speedsters. The one mile and one furlong 5,000 Peabody Memorial, restricted to sophomore performers, highlights the Lincoln Fields program and is to have its presentation on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30. Following the Peabody, the 0,000 LaSalle Handicap, the Miss America Stakes, which offers the same added value, and the 5,000 added Lincoln Handicap complete the stakes program and are to have their respective runnings on the final three Saturdays of the spring session. As has been the case during the past several years, the Lincoln Fields meeting will again conflict with the current Churchill Downs session, and as a result will not receive its full contemplated quota of thoroughbreds until the Derby course session terminates on Saturday, May 21. However, all candidates for the Crete Handicap and the Joliet Stakes, which will have their renewals previous to the conclusion of the Louisville meeting, will depart from the Downs in sufficient time to fulfill their respective tentative engagements. Training activities at the Homewood oval will pick up considerably the next several days, due to the arrival of several units from the recently terminated Keeneland meeting at Lexington, Ky., with additional charges scheduled to arrive within the next week from nearby farms. Horsemen at Washington Park are high 1 in the praise of the strip proper and pronounce it in the best condition in its history. .
