Greek Song Definitely Retired From Racing 1950 Arlington Classic Winner To Be Turned Out at Ross Farm BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 28. — The already depleted ranks of the older division of handicap stars was dealt another blow today with the announcement by Donald P. Ross that Greek Song has been retired from racing. Ross, who races a formidable string of horses under the nom de course of Brandywine Stable, revealed that, all hopes of returning the four-year-old son of Heliopolis — Sylvan Song to competition had been abandoned when Greek Song failed to train to his satisfaction and that of V. W. "Buddy" Raines, conditioner of the Brandywine contingent. Greek Song left here Saturday with a shipment of Brandywine Stable horses for Delaware Park. Ross, who is president of Delaware Park, stated that Greek Song, will be turned out at the breeding farm he maintains at Stanton, Del., but a site for his stud debut next spring will be selected later. Greek Song, who is the son of last years I leading sire and was bred by Greentree Stud, Inc., won 9,860 last season. In his last start, Greek Song defeated Bed o Roses to capture the rich Arlington Classic at Arlington Park, his only venture in the Midwest. Prior to that he downed Hill Prince in the Dwyer Stakes at Aqueduct. Shortly after being returned to New York from his conquest in the Arlington Classic, Greek Song suffered a fractured bone to his right foreleg and while strong hopes were held that a long rest would overcome the damage incurredthe injury failed to fully respond to treatment and it was decided to end the racing career of the big, stretch-running chestnut.
