] Braintree Purse Draws Seven Mediocre Runners Run Extra Race Today to Make Up for Cancellation Last Week SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 28. — Seven mediocre sophomores vie in the Braintree Purse, feature event on tomorrows off-day card at Suffolk Downs. The mile and a sixteenth allowance test should prove interesting from a competitive standpoints as each of the eligibles have had enough action over the local oval to fit them for a top effort. Track conditions at time of the race will go a long way in deciding who will be the favorite. The field is comprised of Blentigo, Sam H., Kasco Knight, Flic Flac, Gay Prince, Plucky Star and Margaret B. That group constitutes a variety of speed for the Braintree. Gay Prince, Margaret B. and Sam H. loom as the early speed, while anyone of the others is capable of turning in a late rush that should bring most of the candidates together in the rush through the stretch. In order to compensate for the cancellation of a race last Thursday when the local management had scheduled a charity show for the benefit of the Christopher Columbus Youth Center Fund, nine races will be scheduled for Tuesday. The declaration of a race last Thursday was made after it was decided that a noon show of top performers" in the entertainment field would be impracticable because of a steady downpour of rain. Then the rains subsided. The entertainers did bits after the running of the third race and consequently the seventh race was called off to allow the spectators to get home at their usual time. Aside from tomorrows feature, the remainder of the card consists of numbers for the cheaper horses on the grounds. Because of Wednesdays holiday, when the better performers will be drafted, the lowly platers have a f ied day in a variety of ton-tests with the emphasis on sprints.
