New England Notes SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 28. * v Agent A. J. Sands has taken over the booking engagements for jockey Frank Solimena. Mrs. G. Robertsons Darby Dieppe, winner "of a turf -course race, at Suffolk Downs this month, was one of the highly regarded three-year-olds in racing six years ago when he finished third in the historic Kentucky Derby. Trainer J. P. Hall has given up his duties as a public trainer at Suffolk Downs and will devote full time to training for the Woodley Lane Farm from Sandjr Hill, Md. He has disposed of Stratojet at private terms to Leo Boyle. Luke Lanigan, of Quincy, who retired from racing in 1948 after his Wayne L. was claimed for 2,000 atHialeah Park, has returned to the sport by purchasing Final Drive, a three-year-old gelding which will be trained by W. C. McDermott. There is a total of 1,087 horses on. the grounds on Suffolk Downs and the registration papers show 247 different owners. Miss Anna Hines, owner of in a Breeze, a recent two-year-old starter here, has her own breeding farm in Tennessee. She, together with her sister Sally, are famed "show" riders. Both *will arrive at Suffolk Downs this week. Miss Hines horses are being trained here by R. W. Collins. Dick McLaughlin, former jockey from Haverhill, Mass., writes to his friends that all is well in his new role as an infantryman in Uncle Sams Army. Dick is presently a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 135th Infantry Regiment, Camp Rucker, Ala. -Trainer J. W. Bailey shipped Senor Hygro, Caters Oats, Liberty Luck and Folk Music to Lyle Ruff at Garden State Park. Owner T. P. Morgan is expected to direct the replacement of the quartet with four from Ruffs string. Steady improvement of the Suffolk Downs turf course has been noted this season. Twice during the past two weeks, new track marks have, been established over the grass course. Track superintendent Joe Tomasello is to be commended on the splendid care with which he supervises the maintenance of the infield strip. — TT ....... i
