Belmont Park Offers Pair of Features Today Alphabetical and Definitely Head - Smith town and Overbrook Purses BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 28. — Sixteen thoroughbreds are being given x what may be their only opportunity to win a non-claiming race on the New York tracks this year in tomorrows two features at Belmont Park. Six of them, all sophomores, are in the Overbrook Purse at six furlongs, while the other 10 have been entered in the Smithtown Purse at a flat mile, which, follows as the sixth event. These tests carry ,000 prizes and are followed by a high-price claiming race with the same reward and which has attracted the same class -of horses. W. G. Williams Alphabetical heads the field for the- Smithtown with 118 pounds and looms the favorite. A five-pound apprentice allowance has been claimed, but no boy has yet been named, and it is possible the "bug" may be waived. In his last start, Alphabetical finished second to Cacique in a six-furlong sprint, while in his previous start at Jamaica, he was a distant third behind High Bracket and Limasol at a mile and a sixteenth. Two of Alphabeticals rivals won their last starts here. Mrs. J. T. Maloneys Springtale romped home in a maiden event at a mile and a sixteenth on a sloppy track, while J. W. Bellonas Lady Jacopo won here when running for ,500. She had been unable to score in Maryland while carrying a ,000 claiming tag. Bill Post, whose horses are beginning to come to hand, has entered a pair for Mrs. C. Oliver Iselin in Powwow, 114, and Nepal, 107. Powwow won a maiden race at Jamaica, then finished second to Knowitall, who was thought good enough to start in the Preakness, which proved to be a mistaken estimate. Nepal has showed little this year and won a maiden race late last season. Nichols Combest will ride Powwow, who trains well and will have a following, while Ovie Scurlock is to guide-Nepal. The others in the Smithtown are Phantom Farms Father Tiber, who has been racing against better horses without success; Mimosa Stock Farms Sir Greek, G. H. Bostwicks Princess Bly, William Ewings Auditing and Charles Raynors Isopera. The Overbrook is headed by Braeburn Farms Definitely with 123 pounds, most of which will be Ted Atkinson. Definitely finished a fair third behind Due East and Gray Matter in his last start here and won before that. His chief rivals tomorrow appear to be Mrs. Ada L. Rices Vincent X. F. and Wheatley Stables Easy Whirl and King Ranchs Mission. Vincent X. F., who will again be ridden by Conn McCreary, came from behind to beat a large field in a sprint here last out, while Easy Whirl beat Mission in his last start. Bobby Permane will ride Easy Whirl, while Bill Boland will be astride Mission. The other two in this dash are the disappointing Graphic and Prospect, who is making his debut.
