The 0,000 Wilmington Handicap, traditional opening-day headliner, has attracted nine prominent members of the sprint division to vie at six furlongs. Of primary interest to the numerous fans who attend regularly is the return of the Daily Double to Delaware Park after a lapse of nine years. The Daily Double will be by means of the American Totali-sator Companys new machine. One of the most interesting features of the 32-day meeting is the special series of Montchanin and Kiamensi handicaps, offered each Wednesday and Saturday throughout the meeting. These handicap events graduate in value and distance each week and have proved extremely popular in the past. The Montchanin is for horses which have started for ,500 or less since October 2, while the Kiamensi is an open handicap. Symposium Assigned 116 Returning to the opening-day festivities, we find that F. Ambrose Clarks Tea-Maker, a versatile son of Only One, will be the starting highweight under 125 pounds. Pitched nine pounds below him is Max Glucks Symposium, who gets in under 116 „ pounds. Grouped in the 115-pound bracket are Mrs. E. duPont Weirs Royal Governor and Bedford Stables Call Over. Other scheduled starters, with their assigned weights, are: Brown Hotel Stables Tidy, Sum and Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Suleiman, each with 110 pounds; William Y. Tea-Maker, an eight-year-old gelding, " has at one time or another been active in sprints, route races and hurdle events, and has been most proficient in the past two I seasons. He won seven of 14 starts last year and earned almost 5,000. He has raced but three times thus far in the current campaign. He was disqualified after winning on one occasion and also was second and third. He will have the services of Eddie Arcaro in the Wilmington, which, in itself, will earn him considerable, support, j ; Symposium, a gray son of War Relic, was acquired from the Samuel D. Riddle dispersal sale last winter at Hialeah and boasts three victories and a second in four starts for Gluck. He last competed in the Camden Handicap at Garden State and won over Call Over and Casemate in 1:10%. Call Over, who won the Rowe Memorial at Bowie in mid-April, has run but once since being beaten by Symposium, being beaten five lengths by the disqualified Tea-Maker at Jamaica. This Devil Diver colt usually gives a . good account of himself and could prove formidable in the Wilmington. Royal Governor probably is the best known handicap horse in this sector, having established some sort of a record during 1949 when he won the Wilmington on Saturday and returned on Mondays program to capture honors in the mile and a sixteenth Brandywine Handicap. This season, however, the Pilate— Feathers gelding has been no great shakes. He was beaten two lengths by Sagittarius in an overnight allowance =*race, - then -was- sijr -lengths- be* * * hind Singing Step in a similar race over a good track. He seems well-treated under 115 pounds in the Wilmington and is certain to be running the last part of the dash. Tidy Sum has been campaigning in Kentucky, where he was very consistent, being unplaced only once in nine starts and winning four purses, all against overnight handicap company. Suleiman is a double winner this season and distinguished himself by finishing in a dead heat with Whif-fenpoof in Laurels Capitol Handicap. Binky B., Mahoon and Cornwall, as their weight assignments would indicate, are being elevated a bit for their Wilmington engagements. Binky B. has been quite successful in claiming an allowance company, winning five races and being no worse than second in his last five starts. Mahoon, after being second in his seasonal debut, was unimpressive in a recent appearance, while Cornwalls lone start this year indicated that the effort may have been needed - ~ " - * ■ ia attain-good form:
