Nine in Billings Purse At Washington Toddy BanoYina, Brezno, Deep Water Seek Seven-Furlong Attraction WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood 111., May 28.— Champions and near-champions, human and equine, are being honored on tomorrows Lincoln Fields program at Washington Park. Races have been named for Ezzard Charles, worlds heavyweight champ, and Joey Maxim, challenger, who meet in a title bout at Chicago Stadium Wednesday night. The nominal feature, seven-furlong event, is named the Billings, who would have been the champion of his year if it hadnt been for Citation. Another race is entitled the Burgoo King. Nine sprinters were named for the Billings, who ran one of his best races in winning the Peabody Memorial Stakes in 1948, beating Shy Guy, Eagle Look, and others. Heading the list of. entrants is J. A. Kroecks recent acquisition, Deep Water, winner of two consecutive races recently and placed in three other of his seven starts this season. This six-year-old gelding by Blenheim n. — Black Wave is a full I brother to the 1947 Kentucky Derby winner, ■ Jet Pilot. He seems to be a greatly r improved horse over his five-year-old form. . Brezno is f a gelded son of the old Chicago favorite, " Mucho Gusto. In the days before the Pea-- body Memorial became a race for "three- year-olds, exclusively, Mucho Gusto won the event twice, in 1936 at four, and again in 1940, at eight. He also won the Lincoln Handicap twice at four and seven , shar-i ing such distinction with Equifox and Take Wing. First iTenet and Roadrunner also are three-time winners this season. Last Sat- urday they finished third and sixth, re- spectively, to Beirut.
