J., May 28.— Eight juvenile sons and daughters of stallions standing at New Jersey thoroughbred nurseries have been named to test their speed and class here tomorrow in the 0,000 added New Jersey Stallion Stakes. The Garden State Park management inaugurated the fixture in 1948 as an encouragement to the state breeding industry, with James Cox Bradys Casemate, victor in the 1949 edition, developing into an outstanding sprinter and bringing a degree of purpose to the event. Due to the coughing epidemic which has covered the Eastern Seaboard, the field tomorrow is small. Many observers will consider the eight contestants a mediocre lot, but two of the band have never started and it would be unwise to condemn any of them until they have had ample time to develop. An interesting program has been arranged around the Stallion Stakes, and a large pre-closing day crowd is anticipated. The big day, however, will be on Wednesday, when the 0,000 added Jersey Stakes brings this 25-day session to a conclusion. Henslee Farms Villager, although a maiden, has been the most impressive of the Stallion Stakes entrants who have been racing at this meeting. The selection of a favorite is difficult, however, with the public liable to center their attention on Short Brook Farms Mariposa or John Pons Ace Tip, the only two winners in the field, or they could be influenced to try William G. Helis, Jr.s, Val-O-Val, a smartly-bred first-time starter. The others are Mrs. Alfred Roberts Some Case, M. C. Erlangers Boy Genius and Carolyn K. Stables Noble Spartan and Mrs. F. Wallis Armstrongs Singleton, who are both first-time starters. Seven different stallions are represented, with Case Ace the only sire having two of his get in the feature. The other sires are Easton, Greek Warrior, Jims Boy, Rounders, Boy Angler and Valdina Orphan. 00 Yearling Purchase Villager, who is a large bay colt, by " Rounders and Any Time Anne, was purchased for a meager 00 at the Saratoga Sales, but he has not been disgraced by the price tag while competing with the best youngsters at this meeting. Villager finished seventh in both his first and second starts, placing behind such promising juveniles as A-Pacopep, Knights Reward, Fred R., Miss Nosoca and GroverB. His last start was his best, when he had the speed to be close to the early pace before tiring to finish slightly, more than. 10 lengths behind and fourth to the winning Fred R. who won the race in near-record time of :58%. Jockey E. Delpino, who has ridden him in all of his engagements, will again be up tomorrow. Mariposa has started seven times and won her maiden race in a three furlongs dash alrHialeah in :34.* She has failed to place in the money in her other starts, although her last was not too bad when she came, in fifth at Belmont Park behind Tina Lazar, who captured. the event in a swift :58%. She was merely breezing in her "blow-out" this morning, which was caught in :36% for the three panels. She is to have the services of jockey C. Du-rando, who is coming in from New York. Ace Tip gained, his lone victory in a disqualification which moved him into the number one slot at Laurel. He has had a bit of tough racing luck in both of his starts here, but he did not appear impressive in either one. He has started seven times. Val-O-Val has had most of his training over the half-mile track at the Helis Stock Farm in Jobstown. He is a bay colt by Valdina Orphan and Valdina Gay, and may be the best bred youngster in the lot.
