Sox, Dorish Blank Senators, 5 to 0 Hurls Five-Hitter For Initial Start Comiskeys Stretch Winning Streak to Six Games; Face Four-Game New York Series By ED .SAINSBURY United Press Sports Writer Right-hander Harry Dorish made his first start of the year a successful one yesterday, blanking the Washington Senators, 5 to 0 on five hits, as the Chicago White Sox extended their current winning streak to six games. Dorish, who held a jinx over the Senators last year «when he won four and lost none to them, made his 1951 record three victories and one defeat. But all his previous hurling chores this year were in relief roles. He failed to strike out a single man, but he gave up only three bases on balls, and Washington got a man to third only once, in the eighth, when Sam Dente led off with a single and made second on Mike Guerras single. Denter reached third as Mike McCormick hit into a double play and he stayed there as Eddie Yost grounded out. The White Sox clipped"" Washingtons starter, Julio Moreno, for the winning run in the first inning, when Bob Dillinger singled, stole second, and scored on Orestes Minosos single to left.: Wild Third Inning Two more runs counted in a wild third when Nelson Fox singled, advanced when] Minosp walked, and scored on Eddie Robinsons single to right, while Minoso reached third. Minoso counted when Eddie Stewart • forced Robinson at second. The Sox came through with another run on no hits in the fifth as Minoso walked, stole second, went to third, on Stewarts fly and scored on Jim Busbys infield out. The final Sox tally came in the seventh. Fox singled and advanced when Minosa - beat out a bunt to the mound. Fox reached third as Robinson forced Minoso and scored when Stewart forced Robinson. The walks issued by Dorish, one per inning for the first three innings, could have been more costly. But Cass Michaels was erased by a double play in the second, while Eddie Yost was caught stealing after he walked in the third. The White Sox. came up with three double plays to run their total for the season to 55 in 43 games. Bucky Harris sent three Senator hurlers . into the game, but Moreno, who went four innings before he was lifted for a pinch-hitter, was charged with the defeat, his fourth of the season, compared to one victory. v It was Washingtons sixteenth loss in 18 games and the fifth in a row. For the White Sox it was their sixth straight and their nineteenth win in the last 21 games. The victory gave the Sox a temporary five-game lead in the American League. The score by innings: R H E Senators 000 000 000— 0 5 0 White Sox 102 010 lOx— 5 9 0 Moreno, Haynes 5, Consuegra 8 and Guerra; Dorish 3-1 and Niarhos. Losing pitcher, Moreno 1-4. A. B. HAPPY CHANDLER — Denied yesterday that he will step down as commissioner of baseball next week and indicated he would take his own sweet time in resigning his post.
