i Name Six Sprinters For Zenith Purse Stiff ki Engages Baby Comet, Dixie Flyer, Countess Molly In Main Event at Detroit DETROIT, Mich., June 7— The Zenith Purse, six-furlong dash for four-year-olds and older, is the top attraction on a well-balanced program arranged by racing secretary Charles McLennan for presentation tomorrow at this Wolverine State racing today at this Wolverine State racing grounds. Six of the better sprinters quartered here are entered in the Zenith and the headliner shapes up as an unusually interesting race. The final offering on the bill, also at three-quarters mile, is to bring together eight useful racers and it is *the chief supporting event. A. and R. Craigs hard-hitting Suffki, who is to have the saddle services of Tommy Barrow, is the overnight favorite for the Zenith and he will go postward under the top weight burden of 119 pounds. Others named for the feature are Circle M Farms Countess Molly, 106; Mrs. George Whites Dixie Flyer, 112; Joseph A. Goodwins homebred Donke Serenade, 108; Peter A. Markeys Baby Comet, 112, and the quick J filly, Yoicks, from the locally-owned An-j drews and Zakoor string, pegged at 107 , pounds. I Trainer Walter Ridenour, of the Circle M String, named Jerry West to handle Countess Molly, while, apprentice Kenneth Godkins is to be astride Yoicks and Alfred Popara will-ride-Dixie Flyer. Arthur Mon-teiro drew the mount on Donke Serenade and Eldon Coffman or Darrell Madden .may accept the saddle assignment on Baby Comet. Suffki, beaten but a length in the Col. F. M. Alger Purse on Memorial Day, gave a splendid effort on that occasion, closing strongly behind Bee Lee Tee as the latter gelding stepped the three-quarters mile in 1:11%. Previous to his shipment to the Motor City, the Craig star hadntbeen under silks this year but he won five engagements out of 16 outings during the 1950 season, his last being scored at Churchill Downs on October 25. Raced Well in Kentucky Countess Molly raced rather well in Kentucky this spring and she ran third to Old Tom and Dixie Flyer in her Detroit debut, defeated by less than one length in the six-furlong Plymouth Purse, decided in 1:11%. The Circle M filly probably needed that race and she is expected to give an improved effort tomorrow in the Zenith. Dixie Flyer visited the .winners ring on three occasions last year as a sophomore and she was beaten but a half length by Old Tom in the Plymouth. She was sharp enough to defeat her stake-winning stable-mate, Our Request, at he local course last September and she turned back such shifty rivals as High Frequency, DAccord, and On the Aisle, among others,- at Hazel Park. Baby Comet is the "dark horse" in the Zenith. Victress in three of 14 outings last season, the Markey miss certainly is dangerous on her best form. Thus far this year, she has been under silks on nine occasions and she was four times second before running fourth in the Plymouth Purse. Her best performance thus far in 1951, was a sharp second to Dark Favorite at Jamaica in the Ceres Purse, which was run in 1:12 over a sloppy strip. Yoicks, no stranger to local racing patrons, is off to a good start this year inasmuch as she won three races before her transfer to Detroit. She won at seven furlongs in March at Gulfstream Park, stepping along in 1:23% and also scored at Hialeah Park in a pair of three-quarter mile races. Her recent morning trials have been on the fast side and she has been five "furlongs over the Livonia strip in 1:00% handily. Robert S. Links New Orleans-owned Illustrate, with apprentice Tommy Cafa-relli in the irons, probably will rule favorite over his seven rivals in the nightcap. Illustrate is to meet some speedy company in Mrs. Arthur Brents Kingar-vie, Cattarinich Memorial Handicap victor last year and also winner of the 1946 running of the Kings Plate; Saginaw Stables Tacony, and Robert L. Lancasters Raven Reward. Others entered in the Friday final event are R. B. Walters ChicBit, Niagara Stables Play At, Helen S. Reine-mans Credric, and J. O. Hewgleys Alschol. Present overhead conditions in the Detroit area are perfect and the racing tomorrow undoubtedly will be contested on a fast track.
