JNITED PRESS- 1 NEWS BRIEFS Says Russia Backed Peace WASHINGTON, D. C, June 7.— The Voice of America says Russia has sponsored a series of Korean peace moves. "The moves," said a Voice broadcast, "have been made through a number of indirect and unofficial channels. . .but such moves have to be made openly and not under the table if they are to be accepted as sincere." Reds Reinforced TOKYO, Japan, June 7. — Communist reinforcements from Manchuria streamed down both coasts of Korea today to try to save the "iron triangle" defense position. Red troops prepared to make a "stand or die" defense of their central Korean bastion. Calls Request Minimum WASHINGTON, D. C, June 7.— Deputy Defense Secretary Robert A. Lovett told Congress today that the administrations request for 0,000,000,000 for defense spending next year was a "minimum" figure and would probably go higher. Sees War of Nerves TEHRAN,* Iran, June 7.— United States Ambassador Henry P. Grady said today Russias reinforcement on its Iranian border defenses appeared to be only part of j a war of nerves. General Bradley Gets Degree CAMBRIDGE, England, June 7.— General Omar N. Bradley, chairman of the U. S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, was awarded an honorary doctor of laws degree today at Cambridge University. The degree was conferred by Air Marshal Lord Tedder, newly appointed chancellor of the university, who succeeded the late Gen. Jan Christian Smuts of South Africa. Collision Kills 51 RIO "DE JANEIRO, Brazil, June 7. — At least 51 persons were killed today when ah electric commuter train collided with"a fuel truck at a grade crossing. Another 37 were reported injured seriously in the crash and resulting fire at the Nova Iguassu station, 25 miles northwest of Rio. Announces H-Bomb Progress - NEW YORK, N.
