Expect Several Records To Be Set at Sportsmans Five Track Marks Established During Last Seasons Meeting The 1951 harness racing season at Sportsmans Park will have plenty to shoot at if it is to top the 1950 season, but Chicago Downs officials believe it will be even bigger. Two marks set last year were: 1 Proximity cracked the worlds record for money-winning trotters on the Cicero half miler when she won the 5,000 Sportsman Trot. 2 Five track records were shattered during the 1950 meeting. The 73-year-old money-winning mark held by Goldsmith Maid was broken on the night of July 28, 1950, when Ralph and Gordon Verhursts great trotting mare won the first heat of the classic and ran her earnings to 52,929.67. But Proximitys glory was mixed with a certain amount of disappointment as she lost her first race of the season to "Demon Hanover in the second half of the classic. But by that time, she had broken the money-winning record and her defeat was merely an anticlimax. The track records which well are as follows: Demon Hanover set the track record for the mile and sixteenth when he trotted the distance in 2:11%, just two-fifths of a second off the world record. Proximity cracked the mile record with a speedy 2:05% while Moses set the 6and furlong marje with a trotting pace of 1:41%. Charming Scot shattered the one mile pacing mark when he blazed over the Sportsmans oval in 2:03%. Doctor Parker cracked the 6Y2 furlong mark with a 1:39 Ys in the first heat of the 0,000 Invitational Pace. Cedric B. Grattan tied the 9/16 mile pacing record with a 1:08%. Most of these records will probably fall again during the coming season since all of the turns have been banked to add more speed to the sulkies.
