j i Phillies and Church Trounce Cubs, 7-1 Pafko Spoils Shutout With Eleventh Homer of Season; Klippstein Suffers Defeat PHILADELPHIA, Pa., June 7 UP. — Emory "Rubba" Church pitched his seventh consecutive victory over Chicago in a two-year span today, limiting the Cubs to five scattered blows as the Philadelphia Phillies laced out 14 hits for a 7-1 triumph. Church, gaining his sixthvictory against three defeats, thus achieved half of his total of 14 major league triumphs over the Cubs. Andy Pafko spoiled Churchs bid for a shutout by slamming his eleventh home run of the season off the roof of the centre field bleachers in the second inning. Church struck out eight. Cub starter, Johnny Klippstein, who was belted out in the sixth when the Phils tallied five times, suffered the loss, his second in five decisions. Bob Kelly relieved Klippstein, lasting until the eighth when Johnny Schmitz took his place for a pinch-hitter. Waikus Batting Star Eddie Waitkus led the Philadelphia attack, batting across three runs with two doubles and a single in five times at bat. Dick Sislers sixth home run in the big sixth with pne mate aboard, his second hit, was the big blow for the National League champions. The Phillies picked up their first two runs in the fifth. Del Wilber singled with one away, and Church doubled off the center field wall. Both runners then seeded on Waitkus two-bagger to almost the same spot. The Phillies batted around in the sixth. Del Ennis celebrated his twenty-sixth brithday with the first of two singles, then scored on Sislers homer. Singles by Wilber and Ed Pellagrini, Waitkus second two-bagger, a single by Richie Ashburn, interspersed with a pop-up and a stolen base, accounted for the final three runs.
