MAIL, never far back, went between horses to reach a narrow lead inside the sixteenth post and got the nod. YOR OPTICIAN drifted out during the running while improving position and just missed. JUNE KAYE was bothered in the stretch, then came again stoutly when clear. MILTON BERLE made the pace and tired in the late stages. REDINGOTE lacked a closing rally. HERES LUCK, knocked back sharply at the start, recovered quickly to be with the leaders, swerved in the stretch and tired. SUNNYLAND veered in at the start. VOCABULARY tired. KATHY MENDEL was outrun. BASHAW dropped back under restraint after the start, swung out leaving the turn and sloughed RAMA JO, was guided to the outside for the drive, wore down TRUMPET CALL and came out of the race lame. The latter, a sharp factor from the outset, took command and drew clear under punishment in the stretch and could not withstand Jhe winner. QUILLET, unhurried the opening stages, lost some ground improving position and closed willingly. GAME BIRD was forced to race wide on the turn. CROWS NEST II. tired the final quarter mile. ODE came to the rail when clear shortly after the start, gained the lead entering the turn and outgamed ROSE BEAM. The latten, with the pace between horses most of the way, went up to be on nearly even terms for the lead a few strides from the finish and hung. EVANS MOUNTAIN, shuffled back just after the start, went up to threaten boldly entering the stretch and faltered. PROMPTNESS forced his way between horses to be a sharp contender and lacked a closing rally. SUGAR COATED broke in a tangle, was rushed up on the, outside and tired.
