EQUABLEU was with the first flight while well on the inside and wore down JENKINTOWN in the final stride. The latter moved forwardly on the outside, reached command nearing the furlong post and just failed. PRIDE OF JUDEA was a sharp factor from the outside and missed in a good effort. BELLDIVER had no excuse while clear on the outside. SMOCK had speed and faltered nearing the end. FREE ON had no mishap. CHUM raced very greenly. THE WENCH vied for the lead between horses, drifted out slightly through the drive and lasted over ISH-KABBLE. The latter broke poorly, worked his way up steadily between horses and closed resolutely. COPPER PLATE raced slightly wide while forwardly placed and held on stubbornly. RUSTICATE was slow to begin and lacked room. GALORE GALORE lacked room while trying to move between horses on the turn. THEOLOGIAN broke poorly. PRINTERS DEVIL had speed and tired. STAR RUBY raced with the leaders and gave way, as did PAT II. CROSSLOCK quit badly. STRIDE AWAY broke slowly. HOT went into command shortly after the start, bobbled at the fourth jump, but recovered quickly, was hard put when challenged on the final turn, swerved out at the final obstacle, then showed a tendency to drift in through the finish run. A claim of foul against the winner by the rider of PALAJA was not allowed. The latter was allowed to drop back early, moved into a contending position on the outside, went through on the inside midway cf the finish run to be lapped on the top one, then was not persevered with in the final strides when not good enough, but assured the place. CHERWELL finished well after a slow start. NIGHT PATROL tired. HIS BOOTS showed little. GENANCOKE quit. Scratched— 48002 Elyacin, 139. FOURTH RACE 1 MILE. Count Fleet, Oct. 10, 1942— 1:34%— 2— 116. THE SPANIEL, within striking distance while saving ground, came out when ready for the drive and closed best of the others. COURTNEY vied for the lead until the stretch and weakened slightly in the final furlong. HIYA-SAILOR had no excuse. BLUE ROXY saved ground throughout, made a game bid in the stretch and gave way. PARTY REQUEST ran very wide on the turn. NARRATOR stumbled at the start, went up to challenge for the lead and quit. UNCLE MILTIE, unhurried in the operiing half mile, went through on the inside to engage the leaders, took command in the late stages and outgamed SAXONY. The latter, allowed to settle into stride early, was forced wide and bothered leaving the turn, threatened boldly on the outside in the stretch and missed in a good effort. MIGHTY QUEST, never far back, was placed under hard restraint while waiting for an opening when behind the leaders leaving the turn, forged between horses in the stretch and continued willingly until the end. NULLIFY swung wide leaving the turn, then lacked room between horses in the stretch. LONE EAGLE saved ground moving up from a slow beginning and hung in the drive. WHIFFENPOOF dueled for the lead after the start and weakened in the final furlong. HITEX raced with the pace and had nothing left for the drive. BLUE HELMET went well for six furlongs and tired. CLIVE OF INDIA worked his way up beUeen horses, went through on the inside to dispose of the leaders and drew away. EOLUS went into command at the break and was steadied along while hurdling nicely, then gave way suddenly in the late stages. SYRACUSE LAD was a forward factor from the beginning and lacked a closing rally. HYVANIA, never far back, made a determined bid when called upon and weakened in the finish run. JOSEPH BRANT was best of tired horses. QUIET trailed and the rider lost his right stirrup iron at the final hurdle. ALLFLOR was through early. HALLEY hurdled poorly when tiring. TITIEN II., shuffled back on the inside entering the first turn, was far back when he crashed through a beacon and fell just after the eighth hurdle. Scratched— 582364 Salemaker, 137. HEAD FOR HOME saved ground and had no excuse. FANCY BONNET went well a half mile and weakened. FIRST REFUSAL had good speed and tired in the drive. RINGGOLDIAN was outrun. TACITUS was through early.
