Penocc and Jampol ♦ Give Choice Battle Nose Margins Split Trio at Delaware; Sprint Serves as Kent Prep for Kahlbaum Colt By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 10. — Smartly and strongly handled by jockey Willie Passmore, Marlboro Stud ; Farms Jet Master this afternoon clung tenaciously to a narrow advantage through ; the final strides to score by a nose over Mrs. Chester A. Lyons Penocc in the featured Manor Purse. Just a nose behind the place horse came Max Kahlbaums Jampol, ; who completely outdistanced Charles Rufis j Admiral Cherry and Walter M. Jeffords Loyal Legion, the only other starters. With a crowd of approximately 11,500 enjoying the sport on an afternoon not quite as warm as was Monday, young Pass-more, in scoring in the six-furlong Manor with Jet Master in 1:10%, completed a consecutive saddle double. He had won the ! previous race with Mrs. P. A. B Widener II.s Pacific Ocean. Jet Master, a solid choice off his sparkling second behind Tea-Maker in the opening day Wilmington Handicap, returned .30 in his second victory of the year. Engages Penocc in Early Stages Jet Master was sent through along the inside to engage Penocc in the early strides , of the Manor but Passmore, well aware of his mounts tendency to drift out, sometimes carrying that trait to extremes, was content to sit chilly. He raced on even terms with his rival into the stretch, then was unable to shake off Per.occ when shaken up for the drive. With the two leaders dueling feverishly, Eugene Rodriguez roused Jampol sharply ! and the Thumbs Up gelding, who is primarily a middle-distance performer, displayed ground-gaining strides from the furlong pole. While going fastest at the finish, Jampol was unable to overtake the top pair while charging from the outside. Jampols race was an impressive one, in view of the fact that the outing was designed to serve aS "his prep for Saturdays mile and a sixteenth Kent Stakes, and later the mile and a furlong Leonard Richards. Jet Master is also in the later event, but the distance would seem to be against his starting. After E. S. Sutliffs Shine On and Mrs. Mary Robinsons Prepared had won the first and second races, respectively, for the smallest Daily Double return of the meeting— 2.40— Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Abracadabra scored an impressive come-from-behind victory over a small band of two-year-olds in the five-furlong third race. Making the third start of his career, Abracadabra charged from the outside during the stretch run and drew clear as a bad jam occurred nearing the finish. To many observers it appeared that the winner had caused the jam, due primarily to the fact that he was moving so rapidly. It was, however, caused by Joseph Paolis Bakers Queen, who was disqualified from third position after drifting out. Herman B. Delmans Aquamarine finished second, with Starle Stables Her Chance, the chief sufferer in the crowding, being elevated into the show position.
