I SPARTAN VALOR — Handicap champion arrives from East for local engagements. Spartan Valor Heads 21 -Horse Helis String Checking In at Arlington Park Handicap Champion Arrives * In Fine Fettle; Hooper and Kowall Units Bedded Down ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111., June 10.— William Helis Jr.s Spartan Valor, the reigning handicap champion, arrived here at Arlington Park this morning with 20 other members of the stable under the direction of trainer Frank Catrone. Spartan Valor shipped well from the East where he triumphed in six straight stake races in his most recent engagements. The 36-day Arlington meeting opens this Monday. Spartan Valors two major objectives in this area are the 00,000 added Arlington Handicap and the Washington Park Handicap at the same figure but he may be seen in action earlier than the July 26 date of the Arlington race as Catrone has made him eligible to the 0,000 Equipoise Mile, slated for decision on June 28, the second Saturday of the Arlington meeting. The four-year-old son of Attention — Arisbi, by Bull Dog has won the Hialeah Inaugural, McLennan, Widener, ExcelsiDr, Gallant Fox and Valley Forge handicaps thus far this year and his earnings total a tidy 75,900 for his seasons activities. In the Valley Forge he carried 130 pounds and in the Gallant Fox only one pound less. The three-year-old Topside. . recently third in the Jersey Stakes at Garden State, also is in the Helis string. Also coming in the three-car shipment from the East was the Fred W. Hooper string of 15 under the care of ex-jockey Ivan Parke. Parke will have a strong stable for racing here this season and included are several fine two-year-old prospects. John Zoeller got in from Detroit with six members of the Reuben Kowall-owned Spring Brook Farm Stable. Pur Sang and Brown Rambler are the mainstays of the Kowall unit, with the former just coming off a smashing victory over the filly Sickles Image in the Ypsilanti Rotary Purse at the Michigan Racing Association course la Saturday. Jack Hodgins, conditioner of the extensive Dixiana string, notified Arlington officials that he was leaving New York Thursday with two carloads of horses including the star three-year-old Sub Fleet, who ran second to Hill Gail in the Kentucky Derby. Sub Fleet and his stable companions will arrive here on Friday.
