THEMIS, away fastest, gave way to BURNT LIPS immediately after the start, regained command when shaken and drew clear under brisk urging. HEARTACHE showed good speed from the beginning, but was unable to reach the winner when hard ridden through the late stages. GENEVA closed with good courage in a sharp effort. LOCKSTITCH lacked ample racing room early, then finished willingly when clear. CAMISOLE raced evenly. DOTTIE DEAR lacked the necessary rally. BURNT LIPS was unable to keep up. MONTRACHET, rank during the post parade, failed to respond when set down for the ultimate test. WILD RISK was outrun. GAMBOGE dropped back soon after the start. SAFLO lacked speed. DONS DATE quit. AIR VIEW never menaced. ROYAL COYNESS was outdistanced early. BIRDWOOD was through early. The others were never forward factors. Scratched— 85685 Chant, 119; 84869 Two by Sea, 119. BRASSFIELD was steadied within striking distance of the early leaders, forged to the front when straightened for the drive and gradually drew clear. OUTBIRD worked his way forward to attain a contending position for the stretch run, but did not sufficiently respond when shaken. BEIRUT finished fastest of all and was getting to the top ones. BIG ROAD gave way suddenly inside the furlong marker. WITHOUT FEAR made a game bid on the final turn, then faltered. TIMUS had no mishap. KADER quit. HOLLY SWEET worked his way forward to the stretch, reached near even terms with the leader, but was unable to withstand the bid of the winner. CHARLEY FOY held a clear lead at the furlong marker, then tired rapidly when placed to pressure. MISSION raced evenly through the stretch without mishap. BROOKRIDGE lacked early speed. SEEBIT was always outrun. PUFF quit. SISTER LOUISE began sluggishly. FIT FIDDLE dropped back immediately afte- the start. UNATTACHED was through early. RACHEL G. stopped badly.
