Trainer Johnny Gilbert, the former ace rider, has received word that a two-year- old is being shipped to him by rail from California for a local campaign. The juve- nile is the property of Fred Smith, for whom Gilbert has several other horses in training. Mrs. Samuel Pistorios Tuscany has re- turned to Garden State following his game triumph in the Toboggan Handicap at Belmont Park. His next objective is the 0,000 added Valley Forge Handicap to be run here this coming Saturday. Trainer Harry Silvers, who recently resigned as conditioner for the Puckety Farm, has taken over the string of horses owned by S. H. Popkin. Robert Louis Stevenson, the Philadelphia-born jockey, is making his first appearance of the year at Garden State Park. Stevenson rode successfully at last falls Camden meeting for J. L. McKnight, who had leased his contract. Charley Burr, leading rider at Garden State Park, visited Pimlico on Monday to accept a mount. It was a winning one. He drove Potato Chip Farms Tisbury to vic-| tory in the final event. Burr today re-I sumed riding at the Camden plant. F. G. Farrell, well-known racing official, presently serving as patrol judge at Pim-1 lico. was a Tuesday visitor to Garden State Park. The second highest Daily Double pool in the history of Garden State Park was established last Saturday, when 40,426 was passed through the two-for-one ma- chines. The all-time high at the Camden track is 48,410, set on November 8, 1952. Monmouth Park stakes books have been delivered to the local racing secretarys office and are available to horsemen.
