Jess Linthicum# War Age, Jack the Great to Clash Trio Heads Field of Sprinters In Rippey Purse at Pimlico Oval PIMLICO. Baltimore, Md., May 14.— Gee M. Cohens Jess Linthicum, Walter A. Edgars Jack the Great and Mrs. Zelda Cohens War Age, each of whom had been expected to compete in the week-end handicap, top the field for tomorrows featured ,000 Rippey Purse. Also entered in this five and one-half furlongs affair are Edgars Banta: Jack Kroeses Esmero: Alan T. Clarkes Jeannie C, and Harvey M. Shaffers Sherwood Girl. Jess Linthicum and Jack the Great raced together here last week, finishing third and fourth, respectively, behind Senator Joe and Brazen Brat. Jess Linthicum, a Delib-erator six-year-old, set the pace in that dash and was beaten only a length for all the money in what was his seasonal debut. He carries an additional five pounds tomorrow, while Jack the Great picks up 10 pounds after finishing less than a length behind Jess Linthicum. Jack the Great has raced fairly well in all three of his starts this year and should prove formidable in the Rippey. He also has a capable companion in Banta, a Some Chance lassie who possesses a bit of class. She has started but twice this year and overcame trouble to win her last while operating under a 0,000 claiming tag. War Age turned in a splendid effort while winning his last over a sloppy track, beating Landseair in l:121/5. and could prove difficult tomorrow should the track remain in an "off" condition. The War Relic four-year-old is a shifty sort and could make it two in a row at the meeting. Esmero is one of the Argentine-breds brought here by Kroese and has frequently impressed dockers with his morning moves. In five public appearances, however, he has failed to finish in the money, though often displaying good early speed. He has been freshened since Florida and his return will be watched with interest, in view of the sharp improvement of Again II.. one of his stable companions. Jeannie C. and Sherwood Girl are speedy fillies who may be a bit ambitiously placed in the Rippey. Jeannie C. has displayed her usual foot in four starts this year but is without a victory, while Sherwood Girl has not raced this semester. She won three for 10 last year and was unplaced only in her last start, which was in the Gateway Stake I at Waterford Park.
