Jimmys First in Quest Of Third Straight Win Cataicos Front-Runner to Meet Speedsters in Teacake, Please Pat By AVERY BROWN Staff Correspondent SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston. Mass.. May 14. — Jimmys First, Tony Cataldos chestnut sen of Signator-Killarney Lass, heads a field of sophomores slated to meet in the Unicorn Purse, a six-furlong feature here tomorrow. The speedy colt, who won only one of his 24 outings as a two-year-old, has been unbeaten in two starts here this season. The manner with which he takes command and sets his own pace is enough to warrant favoritism in the allowance test. The 115 pounds Jimmys First is listed to carry represents top weight of the field. Olin Sledges Tin Twist and J. C. Montanas Please Pat are next in line with 110 pounds, three more than is to be carried by Mrs. S. McKeans Chic Queen, R. W. Collins Teacake and G. R. Wynhoffs Strath-eden. Reynolds Brothers Haskell is the lightweight of the line-up with a feathery 103 pounds, which includes a seven-pound apprentice allowance. Tin Twist and Haskell each accounted for a winning race at Oaklawn Park before shipping here, while the same is true of Teacake and Stratheden at Gulf stream Park before journeying north. Chic Queen and Please Fat each won once during their juvenile season. Jockey Earl Gross, who has piloted Jimmys First in his two successes this campaign, will again be the rider. Gross is a good post boy and fits the Cataldo speedster to perfection, breaking him alertly to get the early advantage and thus far his judgment of pace has been flawless. That combination will get an acid test however, as Teacake and Please Pat have showed in previous outings that they are capable of turning it on from the barrier. Tin Twist usually is a slow beginner but in his three local outings, the Tintagel gelding has been a threat with his late rush. The same can be expected from Chic Queen, who will have the services of Tony De-Spirito tomorrow. In her last start, the Psychic Bid filly closed like a runaway freight to fiinsh second to Twig Lee on a good track. Stratheden has not been postward since April 13 at Gulfstream Park, but the majority of the Wynhoff thoroughbreds to start at the meeting have been fit on their initial outing at Suffolk and the Hunters Moon JTV. miss should be no exception. Haskell has only started locally on one occasion since his winning Hot Springs race and improvement over that outing would make him a decided threat.
