Good-Sized Sprint Field To Seek Pimlico Fixture Baltimore Spring Handicap Will Highlight Saturdays Program PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 14.— Recent competition, both locally and at Garden State Park, augurs well for a classy and good-sized field to participate in Saturdays 5,000 added Baltimore Spring Handicap, the five and one -half furlong dash which will highlight the Pimlico program. Alan T. Clarkes Senator Joe and Mrs. Samuel M. Pistorios Brazen Brat, while competing at the abbreviated distance here this past Monday, finished noses apart as named under 120 and 115 pounds, respectively. In the week-end offering, each drops two pounds, which promises another stirring race. Just one length off them in that sprint was Gee M. Cohens Jess Linthicum, who was making his seasonal debut and figures to improve. He, too, drops three pounds and will carry 111 pounds. Less than a length behind that one was Walter A. Edgars Jack the Great, who takes off four pounds while being asked to accept a 110-pound package. Another to qualify locally with a victory was Mrs. Zelda Cohens War Age, who beat High Ground Stables Landseair two and one-half lengths in 1:12% in the slop. Landseair, though beaten, turned in a corking effort after going to his knees early and it seems highly probable that he will compete in the Baltimore Spring, in which he must race coupled with Brazen Brat, both being conditioned by J. Bowes Bond. Both War Age and Landseair will carry 109 pounds in the impending stake offering. Not only will Bond have strong representation with Brazen Brat and Landseair, but there seems to be an excellent chance i that Mrs. Pistorios Tuscany will start under top weight of 125 pounds. This one was to have fulfilled an engagement in the mile and 70 yards Valley Forge at Garden State, but his handlers now lean toward the local sprint. The latest to qualify up Jersey way was Mrs. Alfred Roberts Eatontown, who won a six-furlong dash on Tuesday while reeling off the distance in 1:09% under 117 pounds. This is four pounds more than his burden in the Baltimore Spring. Just last Friday, Brookfield Farms Ignite was successful at Garden State in the mud, scoring by five lengths in 1:12%. That effort likely will earn him a starting position here under 109 pounds. While Eatontown and Ignite are the most likely invaders, several more proficient sprinters still are regarded as possibilities. Foremost of the group are Jan Burkes Squared Away, Alfred G. Vanderbilts Indian Land, Trio Stables Do Report, Belair Studs Hyphasis, Blue Stone Farms War Phar and the Duntreath Farm pair of Whiffenpoof and First Refusal.
